I will think about Jean, who has been in and out of my life for years and years, and whose books will always be in my life. She was one of the people who make one proud to be a human being on this complicated earth.

The world of books feels the loss of Jean's passing. May her memory be a blessing; may young people still find their way to THE PUSHCART WAR, and the brilliant THE TOOTHPASTE MILLIONAIRE. Let those of us who write honor her

Thanks Jean!

October 4, 2012

Thanks for this website. I don't remember the first time I met Jean - I was most likely an infant. Jean was my godmother, and she and Ronni were longtime great friends of my mother Frances Scott, who also illustrated several of Jean's children's books. They used to celebrate their birthdays together on Jan 28th (my mom's was the 29th, so they split the difference.)

What I will remember most about Jean was her perennial kindness. We had many fond visits to Vermont as children.

I'm so grateful for the visit my mother and I had with Jean and Ronni at the farm in 2006, and also that I had spoken with Jean just a few months ago. Jean was a brilliant person, and will always have a place in my heart.

Thinking of you all, and wish I could be there to Celebrate Jean this weekend. Please give Ronni a hug from me.
