Jean Vazzana, born Jean Marie Hawkins, was married to Frank Vazzana for 50 years. Together they raised five children - Frank (SueAnn), Greg (Hannah), Chris (Nichole), Kim (Levi), and Jeff (Jeff). They were also blessed with 10 grandchildren: Ada, Huxley, Nicholas, Freddy, Gabriella, Austin, Ever, James, Leela, and Camryn Jean.

Jean loved being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother above all else. She enjoyed cooking vast amounts of delicious food, reading, and visiting the beach in St. Joseph, Michigan. Jean was formerly an Academic Adviser at MVCC. She enjoyed playing with animals, shopping for loved ones, baking with her grandchildren, and going to movies and restaurants with her beloved husband.

Jean passed away Sunday, February 24th from Multiple Myeloma. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (link below).

Visitation will be held the evening of Friday, March 8th from 4-9 p.m. at Hills Funeral Home in Palos Hills. Funeral mass the following morning at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Palos Hills.

Jean was daughter to Ann and Roger Hawkins, with siblings Roger, Jerry, Mike, and Carol.

Thank you dear friends and family for the very kind and wonderful tributes. Jeanie did so many wonderful things for people and didn’t expect anything in return. She was absolutely an altruistic person. She loved her children, grandchildren, and friends and was as honest, loving, and kind as a person could be. I will miss her every day of my life. Jeanie was my soul mate and I love her with all my heart.

Jean, I can't believe that you're forever gone my friend. I can't believe that we'll never be able to visit in the future and give each other a big warm hug. I can't believe we'll never get to sing and dance to those happy 60's songs again, or at least try to. I wish you knew that I truly understood your pain and I'm sorry that we didn't stay in closer contact with each other to just talk. I wish you knew your life really mattered to me, that in those early childhood and teenage days together you touched my heart with your kindness, your laughter, your positive energy and above all else with your big beautiful smile. I wish you knew that I will remember you forever and hold you close in my heart. As tears are streaming down my face I write these final words, Goodbye my dear friend, your pain is over and I hope that wherever you are, you finally have peace in your heart and in your soul. Will miss you forever. Marl

So very sorry to read of your loss.
Jean was a wonderful person and a good friend.
She spoke often and lovingly of her children and the new baby grandchildren.
We shared a cubicle in Academic Advising at MVCC.

She was the best of us growing up. She continued to be the best of us growing old. Free-spirited, fun-loving, courageous. I'll miss my dear friend Jeanie.

God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.
Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for your family,
relatives and friends,
and for all the dead known to You alone.
In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
May you be united together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.
