My Dearest Manang Jean, My sister, my friend, my confidante... life will never be the same again without you in my life.
You showed me the path to selflessness.
Gave me strength when I was weak
You offered your unconditional love and presence whenever you knew I needed it...
You shared laughter and made me happy
Your aura, and perspective of life was always to live with forgiveness.
Love you always manang . Rest in peace.
We lost you here but heavens have gained an angel.

her Life

Rusela Jeanalie Castillano Toquero

Rusela was born to Guillermo and Erlinda Castillano on the 26th of August 1962.  Siblings to Julinda, John, Joseph and Tess.  As a child she was always the quiet and obedient one but also determined to help out in family struggles any way she could. As a way to get by, we would sell basic items such as onions and garlic in the neighbourhood where stray dogs were left to roam the streets. Once, she was bitten which left her traumatised and fearful of dogs for the rest of her days.
Growing up, she loved being part of school dance shows.  She was a very good dancer who took after our Mom.
When she was 12 years old our parents left to work abroad in the UK, with every intent to provide us a better future.  She excelled in her academics and made our parents very proud graduating as a Certified Public Accountant in 1983 from St Louis University, Baguio, Philippines.

As we grew older, we all ended up going to different countries. Rusela maintained a very close relationship with all of us making a point to have a reunion every year. She was the catalyst that bonded our family and often acted as a mediator when there was tension.
When she spoke, she was able to put us in our place  and explained in such a way that added much more meaning to the situation. She was the very essence of a peacemaker.
She would always say “Do what’s right. It doesn’t matter what people do to you, it’s what you do as a person that matters.  Be kind and helps others. “ she always managed to bring calmness in stormy conversations.

In 1983, Rusela met her future husband Roland Toquero in the Philippines, after our cousin, Pat played Cupid and introduced them.  Their relationship blossomed and later married on May 10, 1984.
They went on to have 3 lovely children, Resty, Jerome and Revin.
Rusela was a dedicated and loving mother who always wanted the best future for her family.  An opportunity to immigrate to Canada came about, where they decided to take their chance to apply. She even learnt French to boost up their chances. Their dream of a new life became reality in May 2005,  when they successfully moved to Canada with help from family members and relatives Tia and family.

Resty later married Rocelyn giving  Rusela 3 beautiful grandchildren, Ryley, Ryder and Ryker.
Her grandchildren were the apple of her eyes and loved them dearly.

In addition to being a devoted Wife, mother, sister and Lola, throughout her life she held an unwavering faith in God which gave her strength throughout her intense battle to try and overcome cancer.
Her life is a living example of Ephesians 4:32
“And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”

Today we would like to say thank you to Rusela for being a part of our lives.  Taken from us too soon but grateful to God for blessing us with such a selfless, loving caring person. Life without you is going to be extremely difficult but we pray that we can continue to carry on with your legacy of creating peace in our lives instead of resisting it.

Rusela Jeanalie (Jeana) Castillano Toquero aged 58, took her final breath surrounded by her loved ones at home on Saturday, 15th of May at 5:11am, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer .
She will  be terribly missed and never forgotten by her entire family. She will remain forever in our hearts.
Rest in Peace Mom
