Jean Eastman Taught Us All

February 10, 2019

I am Jean’s daughter-in-law and was touched by the commendable way Jean lived her life.  She taught me how to be a loving spouse even when your spouse disappoints you. She witnessed the love of her life decline from smoking, yet she always loved and supported him.  She was a true inspiration to me and my family.

She taught me how to be a better parent. She adored her children and grandchildren and always, always made them the number 1 priority in her life. Her love and compassion were truly gifts to us. After Eugene died, Keith and I had an opportunity to go to Europe. Gramma Jean came to Minneapolis by herself to take care of all 4 of her Eastman grandchildren. I told her I would never forget her extraordinary kindness to my family and I indeed have not forgotten.

She taught me to be a better person. She stood by her principles and was not swayed by what other people did or thought. She always treated people with respect and was very kind to everyone who helped her. I especially adored shopping with her at her favorite store, Talbots. After a short time in the Talbots store, she always had the sales people eating out of her hand.

Jean also had a playful side. When she was living at The Promenade, she giggled when she showed me her stash of white wine…under her sofa!

We all loved Gramma and learned so much from her. I know we all have a special place in our hearts for her and she will be missed. I feel very fortunate to have had her as my mother-in-law.

Love, Holly Eastman
