ForeverMissed

All these places had their moments
With lovers and friends, I still can recall
Some are dead, and some are living
In my life, I've loved them all
"
This memorial website was created in memory of our father, Jeff Coulter.  My sisters and our families have spent countless hours remembering him and reminiscing about the father he was, and we realize that so many others can contribute to the story book of his life.  We know he touched the lives of many and while we can not come together to celebrate his life we wanted to build a place where everyone who cared for him could come to share their stories, pictures, and memories.

We would love to see our Father through your eyes and hear about the adventures he had.  We know there are many, he loved to reminisce and he spoke fondly of so many friends and loved ones.

We appreciate you helping us honor his memory, we will read through the stories, shared memories, and pictures often.

Love,
Traci, Trisha, and Kaylynn

For anyone who felt that our Dad was pushing you away in the years leading up to his death we want to explain that the disease our Dad was diagnosed with in July of 2019, Corticobasal Degeneration, had already started to take effect on his body and mind for we believe 8-10 years prior. Those of us close to him truly started to notice a significant change in his personality in the past 5+ years…especially the last 3 years. Please know if he felt distant or different when you would interact with him in this time frame it was the disease, it was not the same Jeff Coulter we all knew. He cared for all his friends and cherished each of you, you were loved by him. Please try to remember the good memories you had with him and find peace knowing the disease is what changed him.

Jeff is one the most unforgettable people I’ve ever met and had many admirable traits. To mention a few… He was very engaging, outgoing, hard-working, fun-loving, and good natured. There was never a dull moment or uncomfortable silence when Jeff was around. We connected right off the bat since we both have a similar and playful sense of humor. I always looked forward to seeing him and really enjoyed spending time with him. There was always something memorable that I would talk about for years to follow after visiting with Jeff. Aside from his fun nature and joy to be around, he also truly cared about people and loved his family very much. He was very devoted to them and was a generous provider and giver. I will miss Jeff greatly and am saddened that the disease significantly affected him during the last years of his life. He left an indelible mark on everyone around him and he tried to live his life to the fullest. I’ll cherish my memories with Jeff and keep some of his traditions going in honor of him.

So sorry for your loss. I spent a lot of time with Jeff while in Memphis, either grilling on the hibachi out back or talking about work and life. Travelling to the UK with Jeff was such a hoot. He also had the best house at Christmas time. He will be missed I am sure.

Sorry for your loss. I knew Jeff while working for ServiceMaster in the UK. We met many times during his visits to the UK and our trips to Train the Trainer in Memphis. My fond memories of Jeff were when we socialized in the evenings. Jeff always had a story to tell and became a very good friend. He will be sadly missed by so many people. God Bless.

Thank you for sharing such great pictures. They capture your dad’s energy and love. His enthusiasm for sports and his side line energy is something that won’t be forgotten. Traci, I’ll never forget when your dad took us to his work conference in Arizona. We ordered room service and laid by the pool all day!! It was wonderful! Ill always remember Jeff as a supportive, generous Dad, who had a great sense of humor and who also loved Wilson Phillips.

I am so sorry ladies.
I pray that God brings your comfort in such a difficult time.
I have fond memory of Mr. Jeff from the few times he's visited Florida.
He was fun to be around, very warm and relatable.
Makes you feel welcomes and comfortable being around him.
Reading more about him today I see what amazing legacy he's passed down and the good characters he's instilled in his children. Investing time and making memories with you all as you grew up. What a treasure.
He will surely be missed.

Dear Traci, I remember your Dad as your most faithful and intense fan at all of your sports activities. I can still picture him shaking his head over some of the ref's calls that he did not agree with. May God comfort you and all who loved him.

So many fun memories in Tennessee over the years. Uncle Jeff would throw us off while tubing at the lake and was the ultimate grill master- BURGER MAN! Your Dad will be missed, but his memory will live on. Love you all.

Obituary

Jeffrey Charles Coulter, 70, of Portland, Oregon passed away on July 5, 2020 due to Corticobasal Degeneration.  Jeff was born to the late Charles and Dorothy Coulter on November 11, 1949, in Portland, Oregon.  He graduated from Ulysses S. Grant High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Oregon State University.

Jeff worked for ServiceMaster his entire career, more than 43 years.  He started his career as a crew chief during his last year at Oregon State University then climbed the corporate ladder.  He did everything from owning franchises, running a distributorship for Northern California, working on programs and manuals for the Home Office, and developing Regional Marketing programs.  Jeff ended his career as the Vice President of Disaster Restoration at the ServiceMaster Home Office in Memphis, TN.  He was known by many as “Burger Man”.  Earning the title at company picnics in the 80’s where he won multiple 1st places in the burger competitions.  The title continued when he would be in the backyard at his home in TN making burgers for his daughters, family, and friends…he was always being goofy and brought laughter and fun to every gathering.

Jeff was a faithful 49ers fan up until the very end, it didn’t matter that he lived in Tennessee or Wisconsin, he always cheered for the Niners.  He loved the Beatles and shared his love for their music with all who knew him, especially his three daughters, who have many fond memories singing Beatles songs with him. He was someone that could never sit still, always doing yard work or projects on the house – he had a can-do attitude and rarely asked for help. He loved celebrating Christmas and bringing the magic of the holiday to his daughters and grandchildren. His favorite Christmas movie was National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and one of his biggest joys was working on his Christmas lights each year so they would rival those of the Griswold’s.  His daughters and grandchildren were blessed to spend Christmas 2019 together in Florida with Jeff and will be forever grateful for that time and the memories made on his last Christmas.

His daughters would like to say a special thank you to the people at Algoma Medical Center & Long-Term Care Unit in Algoma, WI, for their care and support during his final days.

Jeff is survived by his three daughters, Traci Vafeas and her husband Neil Vafeas, Trisha Coulter and her husband Phill Cockle, and Kaylynn Coulter, as well as his grandchildren; Simon Cockle, and Myla and Brenna Vafeas, and siblings Dr. Joseph Coulter (Deborah Coulter) and Marilyn Sheuerman, along with numerous nieces and nephews.  Jeff was a loving father, grandfather, co-worker, and friend.  He will be remembered as a dedicated, loyal, kind, driven, and fun man who could never get the lyrics correct to any song. Jeff was a giving man and wanted to share all he had with his family and friends. He had many family traditions that he passed down to his daughters. Traci, Trisha, and Kaylynn have been, and will continue keeping those traditions alive to honor his memory.

Jeff challenged me to strive for excellence. I oftentimes fell short but he always supported and mentored me.  I wish I could thank Jeff for the opportunities he gave me. In and Out Burgers, I never understood his obsession. If he knew one was in town, that was where he had to eat. He loved to share what he was working on at his home, decorations for the holidays were a highlight. He was know to say "When the road meets the rubber" not rubber meets the road.  Jeff was always coming up with ways to improve systems and thinking years in the future to keep SM ahead of the competition. What a passion he had, always with the franchisees interest at heart. We used to laugh, behind his back, on how he would give us a time to meet him in a hotel lobby and then chastise someone when they arrived on time, only to be told "that was the time I wanted to be leaving in the car". I say these things with love, many fond memories.

Jeff was a mentor to me helping me develop as a person and salesman.  A ServiceMaster Objective in the old days. I thank him for that.  I think the kink in my neck is from all the "Sack Phone" conversations we had ...
He always had my back as I learned a new industry and the ways of the corporate world.  He always told me to put Family First, He always asked me how my family was, always!  I met Jeff on a plane, while he was flirting with our 2 year old daughter or other way around.
What a loss.  He lived and breathed for his Girls and ServiceMaster!  Rest in peace my friend.

One of a Kind!

Wow, what to say about a true long term friend! Incredible person! Such wonderful fun times we had. The stories I have in memory! One I'll share today...I asked Jeff to take us through Muir Woods on the way to a meeting...he said "we don't have the time" but we insisted and there we went driving through Muir Woods at a high rate of speed as we passed the trees so quickly that they were a blur....when we got out of the park, Jeff looked at us and said "there ya have it"! Rest my Friend!
