My path crossed Jeff's in the late 60's. Clair and I attended the same orientation as incoming freshmen at UW-O. When Satori first opened Clair introduced me to Jeff and we immediately became friends. In '71 my partner Larry and I opened the Subconscious Sub Shop on Main Street and were welcomed into the "Main Street Counter Culture Business Association along with Phil from Opus1, and several other hippie businesses. We were the closet capitalists in a sea of flower children.
I remember Jeff as an astute businessman and a good friend. Several years later after the Sub Shop closed, I heard from Jeff and Kay, they had just returned from Florida and invited me over to try Cuban Coffee which they had fallen in love with. I'm saddened to learn of his passing, rest in peace my friend.

I first officially met Jeff the summer before my senior year in high school... 1977 when I applied for a job at Satori. This was my favorite place to shop and I was ecstatic when I was hired. Being a bit of a wild child back then... I was fortunate to have the guidance from Jeff, Kay and the rest of the Staff (Scobbie, Connie, Kim, etc) I learned so much about retail (and LIFE!) from Jeff over the 2 years I worked for him and even got to travel to trade shows to buy for the shop with the gang. What an amazing experience for a young person! I truly believe Jeff's positive inspiration helped to mold me into who I am today. His somewhat frequent trips to the Keys to visit me were always an adventure! He will be missed... but he sure left us with some incredible memories!

THE YEAR WAS 1974  I was recruited into Sears Management Training Program out of college, as a manager at the Oshkosh Store and soon experienced an amazing collection of friendships.
For some years, it seemed I would bring new friends into the circle and everyone just "clicked". Of greater note, most of this group continues now to experience lifes up and downs together. Friends have married, became parents, watched all the graduations, then grandparents and as our friend Jeff, some are no longer here to share all the remains.
Claire Walchi introduced me to her circle of friends and there was Jeff. At first it was a little difficult to feel totally comfortable with him. Although I did much with Claire, (in fact Claire and I shared the same bedroom! (same house living there at different times :)) Jeff wasn't always around so I would see him less frequently. After several parties, Jeff could tell I was "harmless" and we laughed when ever we saw each other in the years to come.
In Jeff I found a man who would live "his" life, "HIS WAY". I didn't always agree with his choices, but I experienced a kind man with a great sense of humor and a sly way of getting his points across. I'm glad to say the time I shared with Jeff always was comfortable and rewarding for both of us.
Wishing all of you the very BEST! DAVID CURRO

I began my adventure called growing up with Jeff at Satori. Like Magda, I wondered up to Webster's Attic one day in the late 60's while attending college at UW-O. He convinced me to make copies of the butterfly dress I was wearing over my bell-bottomed jeans, as well as jewelry and clothing made from blue jeans. A few of us went to the New York Boutique Shows and experienced the Big Apple and those of many cultures. I worked at Satori for years and travelled to Seattle down to Frisco and back to Oshkosh with Jeff in the early years. Selling posters, Indian bedspreads, jewelry and sheepskins to the Mt. Rushmore stores and trading sheepskins for beads with the Oglala Sioux in Florida. Starting Black Dragon for wholesale and going on the road with that line in 1974. Jeff pushed me to buy an airline ticket and go to Arizona to buy turquoise jewelry at factories, add my own jewelry designs and go "on the road" selling jewelry in 5 states. Jeff always mentored those he saw promise in. He was a visionary with a huge heart. Even when people would let him down, he never changed who he was. Jeff opened his home to salespeople at times. He would trade with those who had no money. My world grew by knowing Jeff. I will always be grateful for the business and personal growth he taught me by example. This world will be missing his unique style now. Thank you Jeff, forever missed. Claire Walchli

Back in the dawn of man, my husband and I moved here, from southern Indiana...for about a year. Somehow, we met Jeff and Kay, and I clearly remember, we shared a few dinners at each other's homes, and then, we moved back to Indiana. We never forgot those evenings of food and laughter, and though, we ourselves parted, we still remain friends. Which is what, life should be all about. So terribly sorry, to see that he's changed his address...my deepest condolences....

Jeff, though I didn't know you as well as I would have liked, I know that you touched many lives, and were able to do so many remarkable things. Your time will never be lost nor forgotten and the lives and hearts you've touched is where you will forever be. You always put a smile on my face with your stories and your "let it be" attitude, we will miss you..but you will never be forgotten.

I worked with Jeff and the Satori gang when trying to get high school rugby established in Oshkosh in the early 2000's, and that included coaching Cody and a bunch of his friends. What a good and positive guy Jeff was as well as a strong supporter of what we were doing. And, everyone around him seemed to just enjoy being a part of that great Satori team.  Best wishes to his family and to those of you who knew him really well.

My neighbor Jeff called me one day several years ago and said "do you want to go fishing" and I said "sure". And since that call, we spent hundreds of hours on Lake Winnebago fishing and on some days catching. He was an engaging conversationalist and nothing was off limits in our often very interesting conversations. In more recent years, I'd get up earlier than Jeff and go fishing and I'd be cleaning fish within Jeff's range of vision and the phone would ring and it would always be Jeff saying "why didn't you wait for me and how many did you catch?" I went out fishing this morning and when I came in, I didn't get the call and I felt the emptiness. I'll miss our friendship and wherever he is I hope the fish are biting because every time he'd haul in a jumbo perch it would bring a huge smile to his face. And that's how I'll remember him.

sense of humor, his youthful enthusiasm, and his interest in everything
under the sun. He was a good guy and I will miss him.

I wish to honor Jeff as a strong supporter of our Downtown. I always considered Jeff A very good business friend and he was very generous and supportive to events, causes and the downtown in general. He had been part of the good .. The bad .. And the rebuilding.  I never heard him c/o or gripe, instead his comments would be constructive and team playing.  This speaks volumes as to the type of person he was. And our Downtown will be the lessor with his passing and we will ALL miss his can do spirit

Jeff was part of the fiber of Oshkosh for so long his departure is almost impossible to grasp. When he first opened the Webster Attic store he indulged my attempts to sew hippie-chick dresses and allowed me to try to sell them there - a small gesture but one that I always and still appreciate. Grateful to have run in to Jeff at the farmers' market last summer and reconnect. Whattaguy, what an impressive businessman. Grateful for his life & joie de vivre and always-twinkline eyes and connection to so many.

I am shocked & sadden to hear of Jeff's passing. I worked at Satori 1974 - 1978 when we were located in the old Webster's attic and we moved to the "new" store. I remember Jeff asking me 1 question when he interviewed me for the job... he asked "what sign are you?" and when I answered him he said "you are hired"! Jeff had me run Satori North for him in Egg Harbor (Door County) for 1 summer... I lived in a silo, my heat was a wood burning stove, I had a 2 "seater" outhouse, and took showers 2 miles down the road at the Peninsula State Park, and I had the time of my life! We would go to Chicago for the trade shows, and Jeff was well known as "Jeff & his harem"... Fast forward to 1996 my husband & I started a business, and Jeff was eager to help us succeed. I will forever be grateful to Jeff, and he will always have a special place in my heart. Rest in peace Jeff, you will be missed but will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers to his children.

Just before Jeff passed last week I got to thank him for being a bright light in the wilderness. When we saw each other after long spells, Jeff's engaging, upbeat interest in people always made me smile, expecially when he showed us some new contraption or wonder found in his trading. As his old friend Gabe Egelund and I toasting Jeff today by phone Gabe shared a tale I will tell Saturday. Alas, I did not know him well, yet his community are a close-knit bunch I can alsways come home to in Oshkosh.

Rest well pal. We'll all be together again in the sweet by and by. Abe

You will always be a big part of my life, now and forever. Thousands of conversations, lots of laughs. You are kind and caring and generous (but never wanted anyone to know that). Breakfasts, lunches, playing beads, boat rides, fishing, dreaming. I will remember you in so many ways. I love you and miss you.

Many of the people who loved him will gather this Saturday, May 10 at Oblio's at 2:00 to share our stories of him and remember him. Bring a dish to pass and any vintage photos or memorabilia you might have.

Cool

Erica and I were having drinks with Jeff one night at Oblio's, and Jeff decided to take off when the bar was filling in with the "late" bar-goers.  Erica and I were left in the newer back area when her phone rang: the game that was on when Jeff had left (which he knew we hadn't been paying particular attention to) had gotten really close in the time it had taken him to drive home, and he thought people may not have been watching down there and that we could bring peoples' attention to this.  So EP hangs up and says "Holy shit!  The game is really close!"  Sound was turned up, and everybody got to see the end, and EP and I got to look cool like we knew what was going on all along.

In the late seventies I answered an add in the newspaper, "looking for glass blowers". That's when I met Jeff, Kay, and Peter Boyle (master glassblower). I remember going into Satori, then going upstairs into this controlled chaos atmospher (Black dragon). it was there where I met my first real hippie, Jeff Pyfer! Long red hair, huge mustache. Sorry jeff , but that was my impression! Jeff paid Peter Boyle to teach me the art of glassblowing, and set me up with all the equipment to go into business for myself! All he asked in return was to give him a good price! That's when I met Jeff the businessman, the negotiater, the deal maker. my impression, Jeff the hippie quickly dissapeared. I will miss our late night negotiation I will miss sitting on the top deck, not listening to the music! I will miss seeing you and Erica walking together at the farmers market I will miss you my friend Jeff and Kathy loos
