Jerry D. Clark, 59 of Norfolk, died at his home Saturday, January 19, 2013. Jerry was born in Norfolk on December 6, 1953, the son of Leonard V. B. and Arlene A. (Zierke) Clark. Jerry was raised in Norfolk, NE. and graduated from Norfolk (NE.) High School in 1972. He continued his education and graduated from Northeast Technical Community College in 1974. In 1974, Jerry began his career with Sears. He was a service technician and worked with electronics. On August 2, 1980, Jerry married Tammy Judy. They made Norfolk their home. Due to muscular dystrophy, Jerry retired from Sears in 1986. Being retired allowed Jerry to be Mr. Mom to his children at ages 2, 3, and 5. This was his greatest joy. He shaped and guided them to the amazing adults they are today. Everyone he came across was bound to hear stories about his kids and the love he had for them. Jerry loved the challenge of fixing everything and working in his second home, the garage. There were always people stopping by to see Jerry or bring him something to work on. He saved people more trouble by fixing the unfixable. It made him happy to see others happy. In Jerry's mind there were two seasons: basketball and fishing. He counted down the days until the next fishing tournament or excursion. Teaching his children to fish was something that he adored. Often, he drove the boat so everyone could fish without tangling lines. Whether it be with Lee Timmerman or the HIlkemann's, there were always great stories afterward. Jerry and Kyle fished tournaments together and no greater memories could be had. He had to constantly tell Shayla to put her shirt on while fishing because she thought she was one of the boys. Everyone knew Jerry's truck by the beautiful painting of the "Walleye Wizard." His love of sports resulted in hundreds of friendships through the years. Managing "Kings" men's fast pitch teams sent his family van all over the state. Basketball was a large part of his life as well. Be it coaching his children in YMCA leagues, watching Josh play in high school and college, to present Norfolk (NE.) Catholic and NBA games. He knew every aspect of the game and always had an encouraging word for coaches and players. Jerry took great pride in his cars—especially his 1974 Nova Super Sport. He was able to replace his 1968 Javelin last year in which he won a Sponsor Trophy in its first showing. He also drove it to his 40th class reunion this past July. He love of cars and restoring them was passed down to his son, Kyle. He loved hearing about and watching the progress on all the cars he worked on. He longed for the day that he could help Kyle and Shayla restore her "Lead Sled." His greatest love was for his family, particularly his grandchildren. They were the light of Papa's eye and gave him a reason to push through each day. His beautiful blue eyes lit up every time he saw or talked to them. He had so much he wanted to teach them and made the most of every second they spent together. Jerry will be missed, for he touched the lives of so many people. His kind and giving heart will forever live on in the memories we have of him.
