Happy heavenly birthday Jerry! I miss your raspy chuckle and smile. But I see you whenever I look at Don. I love you and although you left us too soon, I know you are peaceful. Now many of you are there with Granddad and Calvin Jr.

Hey Jerry - As I'm sure you're aware, your boys are playing AFC Wild Card. I know you wish you were here with us and we likewise feel the same way. Good luck to your Dolphins. Hopefully, you will make it all the way to the Super Bowl for AFC. I will be cheering for you. Of course, it would end there because I anticipate America's Team, the Cowboys will be on the other side for NFC.
Miss you so much - Bdise

To the Scroggins Family - I am deeply saddened by the lost of Jerry. I knew Jerry and there is no doubt, he will be missed.  It was but a few weeks ago that I ran into Jerry. As usual he was smiling and full of laughter. Scroggins and Lee Streets of La Plata, Md will never be the same. Another great lost.

To the Scroggins Family -

We were so sorry to learn of the passing of Jerry. As some people journey through life, they leave footprints -- of kindness and love, courage and compassion, joy and faith. Even when they're gone, the trail they've left behind continues to inspire us.

Me and my family are praying that God will comfort and care for your family while you celebrate the legacy that lives on. You have our deepest sympathy.
God Bless!

Sending my deepest sincere condolences to my cousins family and friends.  My dad James "Dump" Queen would like to mention that he will deeply miss Jerry and appreciated Jerry's recent assistance with helping him run his errands. Dad remembers babysitting Jerry and his siblings :-). May your hearts be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times spent with Jerry. I love the beautiful tribute family photos. Rest in peace Jerry.

Jerry, as a little boy I remember your dazzling and captivating smile. The love of those who knew you will transcend through time for their benevolent unsung hero. May you rest in peace and continue to watch over your family and love ones, as your spirit lives forevermore. -Glenda

Three-year-old Jerry Handling His Business on Christmas Eve

I will never forget the Christmas Eve we forgot to hang the Christmas stockings. As you are probably aware, on Christmas Eve, stockings are hung for Santa to place treats like candy, nuts, small gifts, etc. for children. Early that Christmas morning, Jerry was almost three, we noticed something on the tree that clearly was not an ornament. Upon further inspection, we realized it was one of Jerry’s dirty socks. Apparently, our “hanging of stockings ritual” that Christmas Eve was an oversight for everyone except Jerry. At some point that Christmas Eve, three-year-old Jerry realized there were no stockings hung. Consequently, he took it upon himself to track down a stocking, or as it turned out anything, to capture his treats. He found the dirty socks he had worn earlier in the day. He just took one of them and threw it up on the Christmas tree for Santa. There was a flurry of activity to find treats for Jerry’s “sock” before he got up because he had done his part and expected Santa to do his.

His Life

Jerry's Obituary

May 6, 2020
Jerry Randall Scroggins left his earthly home suddenly on Saturday, April 25, 2020, and entered eternal rest. Jerry was born on March 31, 1960 and recently celebrated his 60th birthday. He was the third youngest child of Amy F. Scroggins and the late Calvin Scroggins Sr.

Jerry grew up in LaPlata, MD. As a child, he attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was baptized, made his first communion and confirmation.

Jerry was educated in the Charles County public schools, graduating from La Plata High School. He enjoyed playing in the Colt Football League. He was always ready for a basketball game on any of the county courts against rival neighborhoods.

Upon graduation, Jerry joined the United States Air Force. Jerry took pride in serving his country following in the footsteps of his father and older brother, Curtis.

Once he completed his military service, Jerry worked as a surveyor for Regal Construction and many other companies in the Southern Maryland area. He loved his work and was very good at his job.

Jerry loved his family and looked forward to all family events. His only son, Dontaiz, and grandson, DJ, held a special place in his heart.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. When you visited you would often find him in front of his BIG screen tv watching sports especially, tennis, track, the Olympics, and of course football. To say Jerry loved the Miami Dolphins is an understatement. He took pride in his team even when their record left much to be desired. His Miami Dolphins fanwear was worn all year long. During football season (really anytime), he was a big-time trash talker and enjoyed the rivalry with his family and friends about their favorite teams.
Jerry was passionate about racecars. He enjoyed his weekend trips to the racetrack, especially National Hot Rod Association, (NHRA) races, with his son, brothers, best friend/cousin, Junior Lee, and the neighborhood crew. He could watch for hours and enjoyed that bonding time with the fellas.
He was an avid fan of women's college basketball and would frequently talk with his niece Grace and brother Curtis about the games.
Don’t forget Jerry and his mom. Jerry was a ‘Mom’s boy’ at heart. He was a caring support, comforted and catered to her needs at home every day. Anything Mom wanted Mom received.
Jerry will be remembered for his sincerity, generosity, and infectious smile. You really could not ask for a better son, father, brother, uncle or a friend.  Everybody loved Jerry.  Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Scroggins Sr. and brother, Calvin Scroggins Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his son, Dontaiz Gibson (Kiera); grandson, DJ; mother, Amy Scroggins; sisters, Diane and Denise; brothers Artie, Eric, Curtis, Trent and Tracy, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Sledding on Mr. Gonner's Farm

May 4, 2020
I must've been about seven. We were down Grandma's house and there was a major snowstorm.

Me and Metri were hanging with the "Lodge Street crew" and we were headed for Gonner's Farm. We weren't supposed to go, but those were the best hills for rolling/running down and sledding.

We made the long, cold walk in our snow suits, ready for sledding fun. One problem: we didn't have a sled. But Uncle Jerry had a solution. He saw a car hood somewhere along the way. It was huge. It must've been from a Thunderbird or Lincoln, I don't know.

So there we were at the top of the perfect hill. Jerry held the "sled" steady so that we could all climb aboard. There were at least eight of us on that thing. I can't remember who else was on that ride, but it was amazing!!!! I was down in front and Jerry was using the metal stick (that was used to hold the hood up while you checked the engine) to guide the sled.

The paint job on that car hood was the perfect surface against the snow because there was no friction. We flew down that hill!

Jerry loved going to Mohnton PA. Maple Grove Raceway was a favorite for the brother to chew the fat on Gasoline, Nitro Oxide and of course Nitromethane.
