Sledding on Mr. Gonner's Farm
May 4, 2020
I must've been about seven. We were down Grandma's house and there was a major snowstorm.
Me and Metri were hanging with the "Lodge Street crew" and we were headed for Gonner's Farm. We weren't supposed to go, but those were the best hills for rolling/running down and sledding.
We made the long, cold walk in our snow suits, ready for sledding fun. One problem: we didn't have a sled. But Uncle Jerry had a solution. He saw a car hood somewhere along the way. It was huge. It must've been from a Thunderbird or Lincoln, I don't know.
So there we were at the top of the perfect hill. Jerry held the "sled" steady so that we could all climb aboard. There were at least eight of us on that thing. I can't remember who else was on that ride, but it was amazing!!!! I was down in front and Jerry was using the metal stick (that was used to hold the hood up while you checked the engine) to guide the sled.
The paint job on that car hood was the perfect surface against the snow because there was no friction. We flew down that hill!
