Jessie Mae Stinson, known to many as Evangelist Maria Scott, was born seventh of eight children October 1, 1941, to the late Sam and Minnie Scott, in Huntsville, Alabama, later relocating to Mansfield, Ohio. She departed this life on September 11, 2021, in Dayton, Ohio.

Maria attended Mansfield Senior High School. Soon after, she started a career in the healthcare field as an LPN and Home Healthcare provider embracing her calling of making people feel loved.

At an early age, Maria found salvation at Maddox Memorial Temple COGIC, where her passion for the word of God became a life commitment. She was an anointed gospel singer who devoted her life to spreading love through evangelism; and used her gifts of preaching and singing as instruments for the lord. Evangelist Scott has sung the gospel in many groups; although, she loved singing with her children the most. She has recorded many albums, 45s, and cd’s on her own and with other gospel artists.

Evangelist Scott was exceptional. Fulfilling her commitment to serving others, Maria became a loving foster mom. In this calling, Maria was recognized for nurturing children in Ohio, Alabama, and Georgia as the Foster mom of the year.

Maria was affectionately known as Mommy, Auntie, grandma, GG, and God mom. She treasured spending time with her family, who loved her baking and cooking from scratch. She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren and bingo. Her love for her family was unmatched. She never missed a moment to tell them, “I love you.”

Maria Scott was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, five brothers, two nephews, and one great-grandson.

In her memory, she leaves to cherish three daughters Teena Davis, Tami Wiggins, and Debra Stinson;two sons, Gerry (Telisa) Stinson and Garland (Angelette) Stinson; three adopted children Clarissa Stinson, Kayla Stinson, and Shane Stinson; step-children Charlie (Kelly) Davis, and Mary Ann Davis; 18 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Life long friends Ester Jean Brown and Joe Patterson, and a special thank you to Will Jacobs. Her family and friends will forever miss her, and we hope to continue to spread the love and compassion of Evangelist Maria Scott.
