Born in San Francisco, California to Robert and Betty MacKenzie, after 57 years, Jim passed away at his home following an 8-year battle with bladder cancer.  He grew up in Moraga, California and graduated in 1973 from Campolindo High School where he lettered in football and track.  He was also a member of Boy Scout Troop 212 in Moraga where he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.   Jim enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hiker and backpacker.

He graduated from the University of California, Davis in 1980 with a degree in Economics.  He worked for MCI for 8 years with management assignments in California, Iowa, Washington D.C. and Colorado.  Jim then transitioned to the Financial Services industry working in Colorado Springs for Advanta Credit Card.  He remained with the company through the acquisition by Fleet Bank and then by Bank of America.  During these years Jim held positions in Delaware, Arizona and California.  He remained with Bank of America until his passing.

It was at Fleet Bank where Jim met the love of his life, Mary Lynn Johnson.  They were married on June 21, 2003 in Ambler, Pennsylvania and spent 10 wonderful years handling all of life’s ups and downs as a team.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn of Westlake Village, CA and his daughter from a previous marriage, Megen MacKenzie (Fort Collins, CO), one brother, Bob MacKenzie (Connecticut), four sisters in the San Francisco Bay area, Joyce Hora, Jill MacKenzie, Terry Zellmann, Kathy MacKenzie and many nieces and nephews.  His parents, Robert and Betty MacKenzie, and a sister, Janet Moosman, preceded him in death.

Funeral arrangements will be private and at the family’s convenience.  Please visit Jim’s online memorial site at www.forevermissed.com.  In honor of Jim’s love of the outdoors and Lake Tahoe in particular, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Jim’s name be made to www.tahoerimtrail.org.  If making a donation through the Tahoe Rim Trail Association website please include in the "comments" section that you are making a donation in memory of Jim MacKenzie.
