ForeverMissed

Jitka Mucha, our beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, lost her courageous battle with cancer on the afternoon of 3 January 2011. We will never forget her beautiful smile and cheerful laughter, her passion for life, and her love for the outdoors, music and family - especially her granddaughters.

We are all so fortunate to have been part of her life. She will remain forever in our hearts.

Tribute by Norma Hervey:
My dear Jitka. This holiday season in Praha would warm your heart and I know how much you would love the music, the decorations and Christmas markets in every section of this great city.  I found the light show on the National Science Building to be awesome on January 2 and thought of you and how much you would have loved it too.  I often think of you when at the Philharmonic or in the gardens or just when I realize how much I love this city and its people.  How I wish you could have had many more years to enjoy it all.  Love,
Norma

Always in my dreams and remembrances, miss you as much as ever.

It is with continued sadness that I remember Jitka as a great teacher, a wonderful friend, and an extraordinary person.
We speak of her often in school, those who remain and were her friends.
I was happy to see that Sophia inherited her love for nature and for animals, and I hope that Frank has found peace.

You are missed everyday grandma. We were just in Thailand and all the wildlife reminded me of you. I think you would have loved it. I think I get my love for animals from you, thank you for passing that gift to me.
Sincerely,
Your granddaughter Sophia

It's the end of another year at Columbia Prep and I'm thinking of you.
Here I am as always except for the fact that next year will be my last year teaching.
I miss our discussions about opera, science and life. There's no one else like you and I feel privileged to have met you.
I too have my problems with cancer. Was diagnosed two years ago and the struggle continues...
I hope you're at peace wherever you are.
Miss you,
Monica

My dear Jitka,
I realized when I saw it was your birthday that there are many very special people in my life who were born this week, the best time of the year in Praha with blooming trees and bushes, singing birds, a rebirth of hope in what often seems a dark time. All of these are legacies of your interests and caring and it is a privilege to remember you often - and I do. I only wish that you coulod have enjoyed it all for many years as you deerve to do given the gifts you hae given and those who love you. It is true, forever missed. It has been important to me to know about your interests and your family. Bill died in 2009 but hs life was fun. Our son died in 1984 in his mid 20's, my primary endless grief. But I have to say that knowing people like yourself gives meaning to life even as we grieve losses. Remember the Irish Prayer, "May the Road rise up to Meet you... Your life, shorter than it should have been is a reflection on someone who was always loved by everyone who knew you and who indeed was "held in God's hand."

From Norma Hervey
The site no longer recognizes me so I am sending this to you and your family.
Dan, thank you for sharing the wonderful photos; it is true that one picture is worth many worshippers. I know of no one who loved all aspects of life as much as your mother as is evidenced by the photos and by our memories. It is hard not to feel that she was cheated of sharing your lives and you paid an even greatr price in her absence. Memories are special - cherish yours forever.

Time flies! Can’t believe you and Peter are gone so long. Rest In Peace and take care of each other. We saw Frank in June in Prague. The memories we shared! It wasn’t the same without you. Both you and Peter were so proud of Prague and would know exactly where to go and what to do. Paula, Rich and especially the boys loved Prague. Miss you!

Dear Grandma,
Today we are celebrating the birthday at one of the most caring people I know. Mommy and Daddy are always telling me that I'm so much like you, in that you and I share the immense love for all animals - big, or small. I can't put into words how much I miss your bright smile and loving personality. And of course that memorable laugh. I want you to come on this adventure in London in our new house, and in Tring at my school. I hope you will be with us every second of this amazing journey called life.
Much love,
Sophia, your granddaughter

Další rok uplynul a je to jako kdybys odešla včera. Vzpomínáme všichni i s holčičkami a stále nám chybíš. Jakou bys měla radost, kdybys viděla Sophinku tančit v Londýně s Anglickým Národním Baletem! A Sashu hrát fotbal, běhat přespolní běhy a dělat mnoho jiných atletických akcí. Všichni na Tebe myslíme a všem nám nekonečně scházíš.

This is from Sophia:
This year was one of the most exciting and craziest years of my life! We went through so much, moving to London, settling in and auditioning and getting into Arts schools! We think that you would absolutely love London. It has huge parks, gorgeous sights and lots of fun things to do. I think I am like you in that I love animals and I want to protect them. For example: this year, grandpa gave me some christmas money to spend on whatever I want. And I've decided to give most of my money to some type of animal charity. Also, this year my sister and I got bunnies! My bunny's name is Sherlock. (because he likes to investigate and explore) And Sasha's bunny's name is Alex. (as in Alex Morgan the american soccer player) I am thinking of you all the time when I have a tough day, or when I see or hear a bird.
Lots and lots of love from Sophia

Our new place

Shared by Thomas Mucha on October 28, 2011

Laura and I sold our first house and we’ve taken our first steps on our path to the countryside. We are renting an apartment in an idyllic spot that I know you would love. We’re overlooking a small fishing lake on the grounds of an ancient country estate on the edge of a quintessential English village. I think of you so often now whenever I look out the window. There are two resident herons fishing in the mornings and evenings. I can just picture your eyes lighting up at their graceful flight around the lake. Each night we go to sleep to the mournful serenade of a tawny owl. There’s even a great crested grebe! I’m not sure if you’ve ever seen one of those. The woods are full of deer and other various critters. Wildlife just surrounds us and I know that would have made you so happy.

About my mother

Shared by Dan Mucha on October 16, 2011

On August 3rd, 2011, we held a ceremony for my mother in Prerov, Czech Republic – her birth place and now her final resting place. I shared some of these words with the family and friends who joined us.

--

Thanks everyone for being here to mourn, remember and celebrate my mother’s life. I’d like to tell you about her.

She loved life

Everything my mom did demonstrated her love for life.

+ Her smile and cheerful laugh.+ Her relationships with family, friends, colleagues, and even pets (namely Teddy, her yellow Labrador Retriever).

+ Her passion for work. She was a committed teacher who loved her students, and they loved her.

+ She loved traveling. Iceland, Alaska, Hawaii, London, Paris, Prague, the San Juan Islands are a few of her favorite places.

+ Music, opera, the arts. Her favorite Opera, La Traviata, she recently introduced and explained to her granddaughters Sophia and Sasha.

+ Wine and food. Nothing relaxed her more than a glass of wine after a long day at work.

+ Her garden. Some of her happiest times, even while she was sick, were spent gardening.

In her most difficult times during her illness, she remained hopeful, optimistic, forward looking, courageous and cheerful. She simply wanted to live.

She loved the natural world around her

She loved to experience, study and protect the natural world.

+ She experienced the environment through hikes, bird watching and mushroom picking. She loved to do this with family and friends, most recently with Sophia and Sasha.

+ She studied the natural world as a scientist and teacher. She loved reading about nature, animals and evolution. She admired authors like Stephan Jay Gould and Bill Bryson.

+ She wanted to protect the natural world. The work of conservation groups like The Audubon Society, The World Wildlife Fund and the Sierra Club was important to her.

She loved us

+ She loved my Dad, and everyone who knew them could see that. Their relationship has been a model for me.

+ She loved Tom and me. She took such good care of us, through her last days. She inspired us to be interested in ideas, places and people. I owe so much to her: my curiosity and interests, the quality of my personal relationships, my optimism and confidence, and my capacity to love and be a parent.

+ She was a caring, loving sister, daughter and mother-in-law.

+ My mom adored her granddaughters – Sophia and Sasha. She was well on her way to introducing them to the things to which she introduced me. We will do our best to make sure that she is always a part of their lives.

In the past few years, my mom organized family trips to France and Hawaii – the Hawaii trip for my Dad’s 70th birthday. These were special gatherings that gave us life long memories. These are the types of things she did for us, because she loved us so much.

Saying goodbye

My mom left us too early. As she told my Dad, she had plans and she needed more time.

We had plans with her too:

+ To travel with her even more.

+ To celebrate her 70th, 80th and 90th birthdays.

+ To watch Sophia and Sasha graduate college and get married.

+ To sit around together and just look at each other without saying anything.

+ To love her and to give her more time to love life, the world and all of us.

We miss her and love her very much.

Memories....

Shared by Maria Zachrla on August 23, 2011

In August last year we were visiting Frank and Jitka in their new home in Woodinville. Jitka started to feel better. They had so many plans for the future.

Jitka was so exited with her new garden. Every morning we took a walk around the property. Jitka took daily notes and/or pictures about plants.

We watched the deer and birds eating the raspberries. She was happy to share it all with everybody, her family, friends, birds, deer even the bear.

It was August, almost the end of the summer. We did not know something else would end way to soon.

All we are left with are memories and we thank you for them.
