The Unimaginable

Joan Elaine Campbell

June 12 1948 – November 13 2017

With deep sadness we announce the sudden passing of Joan Elaine Campbell (Snider) on 13 of November, 2017. She leaves behind her warm and wonderful love for a grief stricken family and many greatly saddened true friends.

Born on June 12 1948 in Hamilton, Ontario Joan (Joanie) lived out most of her life in Guelph and Puslinch while raising her two children and teaching and guiding hundreds of others within what is now the Upper Grand District School Board as Mrs. Campbell.  An enviably early retirement brought many new adventures, parties, travels and titles to her but none were so treasured as Grandma.  Her cherished grandchildren brought her endless joy and her love for them can still be felt and will be forever.

We cannot express how much we will miss her boundless beautiful love and endless warm smiles.  We love you so much!

A memorial website has been created in honoured memory of Joan our loving Life Partner, Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Niece, Cousin, Best friend, Teammate and Teacher.

Please visit www.joan-elaine-campbell.forevermissed.com for more information including her Celebration of Life and memorial details.

The hardest and saddest thing we have ever done is send this obituary to be published in the Hamilton Spectator, The Guelph Mercury Tribune, and Guelph Today.

Cottaging 101

For all those that knew mom and for all those who didn't - one thing was very clear - she LOVED the cottage life.

Puslinch Days

November 19, 2017

Mom and Doug never lacked for things to do when it came to the 5 kids (and eventually 7 grandkids - soon to be 8). If they weren't moving them from one end of Ontario to the other, visiting them abroad, attending graduations, preparing for weddings, they were at the cottage. Living the retired life. Hello Curling, hello Tai Chi, hey there Bridge Club, nice to meet you Book Club. Ahh the life!

The End of One Era and the Beginning of Another

November 19, 2017

With her children off to school Joan bought a nice little bungalow with a beautiful piece of property. Her plan - retire and garden. After 30 + years of teaching she hung up her chalk and picked up her gardening gloves and pruning shears. Not one to sit still, she found herself back at school but for Floral Design this time. One thing led to another and the next thing she knew she was the President of the The Guelph Horticultural Society.

One House, Two House, Red House Blue House

November 19, 2017

Mom was incredibly resilient. She found herself a single parent raising two kids while working full time. She even managed to go to school to get a degree and buy her first house (built to order!). She also took over the family cottage from Grandpa. Summers were once again spent outside by the water.

Once Upon a Time in a Schoolhouse

November 19, 2017

Joan found herself settled and married. Living in a big old beautiful schoolhouse. She became a mother to two beautiful children and settled into her career as teacher.

The Mystery Years

November 19, 2017

Once mom graduated highschool, other than Teacher's College and Linden Park Elementary, we know very little about her story. We've heard rumors of time in Montreal, a journey out west. I believe she even once mentioned leather pants, proposals, trips to mexico...maybe someone can help us out with this one...

In the Beginning

November 19, 2017

Joan was born June 1948 to Elmer and Marion. She was one of four children. She spent her childhood growing up in Hamilton with loving friends and family. Her summers were spent in the outdoors, usually on the family houseboat.
