He became a Mess Cook, because he loved to cook,, later a Medic  and last, but not least, a Chaplain. Hard to believe, but true.   After his first two terms, he went to Barber School where he received his Barber licence. He loved to cut hair and talk to all his customers. During that time, at the age of 23, he met his wife, now , Olivia Torres Zambrano. After pursuing her for a while he, finally persuaded her to start a relationship. He was working for a local barber, but decided to buy the barber shop from him. He was always looking for something to better his life with. He convinced his now wife that he was capable of having a family and they became engaged. They were married at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on July 25, 1964,. At this time, Olivia was working at a small grocery store in Fulton, Texas. She later went on to become the bookkeeper for HEB grocery store and worked there for a total of 18 years. During this time, Pepe was offered a chance to buy a small ice cream parlor known as Marys' Malts, which he did purchase and later converted it into a Mexican Restaurant known as "Pepes Hacienda". We now had a business and it was family orientated. My mother, Petra Torres would become our main cook and we worked it for 14 years, We purchased a small two bedroom house on Pearl Street and it became our residence for 12 years. Our oldest daughter, Anna Marie was born the following year, as we continued to work,m my sisters would take care of my daughter while we both worked. Our second daughter , Adrianne was born 5 years later and we were blessed with two beautiful daughters, but somehow, we needed a son, so we tried again and low and behold, our boy, Joe Pepe Zambrano Jr. was born 4 years later. He is now our Pride and Joy,. All this time, we continued working and we were aging, so we decided to complete our family with one more, we didn't care if it was a boy or girl, so we awaited the birth of our daughter, so nine years later, our beautiful baby girl, Angelica Maria was born in 1982. Our family ws now complete--------------Throughout our marriage in good times and in bad, we continued to grow stronger as parents and as husband and wife.

Pepe was very active in Politics, so when he was dared to run for City Council, he did so and won the election. He served for a total of 12 years , serving one term as Mayor ProTem. He was always looking out for our Raza and would eventually be labeled as the "Champion of the Common People". He was well respected in the community. He was President of the Rockport American G I
Forum, as he wa the founder of the chapter in Rockport. I was the President of the Ladies Auxiliary and both of us together with many great people are responsible for our Veterans Memorial Rock, honoring our local servicemen. This monument is still standing in Memorial Park and will remain there forever. Our children and grandchildren should be very proud of our accomplishments.

At the age of 45, Pepe would super his first Heart Attack, attributed to all the smoking he did in his younger years. He survived this and continued working. He was a bondsman, helping people get out of jail and continued for 10 years, His health began to falter and he would have to retire eventually. We enjoyed out golden years by taking care of our grandchildren and traveling some. We both loved to gamble and we would take casino tours when available.

On the fateful day that he would be called by God, it was a Monday morning and we were planning on going to San Antonio. I had an appointment that afternoon. But as he was bathing, he called out to me and I notifced that he was having trouble breathing. I immediately called 911 and tried my hardest to console him. Teh EMT came and worked on him for what seemed eternity, but to no avail, he would not respond. While being transferred to the hospital, he suffered another heart attack and that would be his last. That was the worst nightmare of my life, the man I( loved and shared my life with was on longer here. I'd like to believe that he has left us behind once again to go and prepare a home for us, I believe that when we get to Heaven, he will have a home ready for us. In my mind, the world is a better place because he lived. His love of life, humerous nature, his loving ways, his devotion to his family, but most importantly to our Lord will remain with us forever. He has left a legacy that onloy a truly great man could!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
