Jack, when we said we will never forget you we said the truth. I think of you often. I remember that you were an associate member of the 10th Mountain Infantry Division association. I have also become a member of that organization in part, in your honor.

Hello Jack, We are having a slow season start down here on the mountain. Could you shake a few clouds up there, do a snow dance and send some snow down our way? I would always enjoy duty days on the MHSP when you were Hill Captain as our spirits were high with your humor and wit keeping us going throughout the day.

As the years go by I'll still remember Jack, the great skier, sailer, climber, wine conniseur (yes my spelling is still bad), Navy vet and all around good guy. Litterally, I will never forget him.

Never before on our mutual birthday did I think so much about Jack as yesterday. We had no power or cable here in NJ, but during the night we were restored. We'll always remember our precious time with Jack and his family, and I've appreciated the photos on this site of Jack before I ever met him. What a wonderful cousin he was -- so sharing of his life when we visited him!

When I joined the Mount Hood Ski Patrol in the early 80's, Jack was an icon of leadership for the patrol. It is people like Jack who keep it going for everyone who comes after him. It was truly an honor to know this great person. He will always be in my memories.

Friend, ski patrol companion, mountaineering and ski-mountaineering rope mate, mentor, instructor are some of the words of my memory of Jack. What a fine inspiration. Mount Hood Ski Patrol, Wy'east Climbers, and OHSU School of Dentistry are the venues that I will always remember him. Always prodding, challenging and encouraging, never pushing was his style.

Jack was drawn to the mountains and the waters and the people of the Northwest. We were very fortunate that he was. It was a great privilege to know Jack.

I have so many wonderful memories of making tracks down the

Reese and I send our sympathy and love to Jack's family. We will always cherish memories of our two opportunities to spend time with him and with you, Lucy, and to meet the rest of the family. And I just learned tonight that Jack and I shared something more than our great grandfather, John Coate Mitchem -- my birthday is also Nov. 3!

We had a great friend in Jack Mitchem. He kidded me with a screw coil casting in a Mister Bill doll in the 1980s and I returned the favor with a penile implant trophy on his first retirement in the early 1990s. His contribution to dentistry has been profound, especially in the development of voluntary standards. Jack will be missed and never forgotten.

Jack, you were a leader in the Mt. Hood Ski Patrol whey I was just an applicant and apprentice. You set a high standard and helped up meet that standard. I never did equal your skiing skills...perhaps because I never had a pair of Rosemount boots.

We have shared many a tale about cruising up North around Vancouver Island with Lucy and Jack over the years. They were always, or nearly always, the first ones to head North in the spring. We all have loved receiving Lucy's sketches on their Christmas cards. Both Jack and Lucy have added a great dimension to all our Club members, working on committees and projects.  We'll certainly miss Jack's interest and thoughtfulness.
