John Potter, 67 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on October 13, 2021.

He was born in Minneapolis, MN to Ruth Cowdery and Harold Potter on November 9, 1953. He is survived by his 3 loving children, Danielle Potter, John Potter (Hailey Potter), and Lauren Vandeberg (Jeff Vandeberg), and 3 grandchildren, Hollis Potter (4), Murphy Potter (2) and Crickett Potter (1).

It was John's wish for us to celebrate his life at a place that held fond memories with his children. In this spirit we will have an open house celebration of life for John on Thursday, October 21st at Prestwick Golf Club in Woodbury, MN from 4-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in John's honor can be sent to: First Tee

First Tee is an international youth development organization introducing the game of golf and its inherent values to kids and teens.

Thinking of you often Uncle John. You left us to soon. It is still weird to think that you are gone.

I'm so sorry to hear of John's passing. My sympathy and prayers go out to your family. I took care of Danielle at Play and Praise Christian Day Care first as a baby and then as a preschooler. John was a fun Dad. We all were very fond of this family. Wishing you God's comfort as you go through this time of grieving. I'm so very sorry for each of you. You will be in my prayers.

We have wonderful, fun memories of John starting with growing up in our Richfield days. Our families were intertwined through our school years and beyond. John became an adopted member of our family, sharing our homes, our holidays, and our hearts. His infectious laugh, big personality, open-handed generosity, mad Mr. Fixit skills, and wonderful friendship will be missed greatly by all the Langmades and Bendells. He was loved deeply by us all.

The cousins
Every summer for many years our two families would pack up and head north to Voss Resort. I have so many fond memories of the family time we spent together. John was a couple years older and loved to tease, especially me.
The loved ones that went before you will receive you with open arms and love. That’s what I want to believe.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

- Sent by Andy Eldien-
I first met John in early 1966 when he was 13 years old. I had been dating
his big sister Char for awhile and was finally invited over for a ‘meet the family
dinner’. John was a big part of the ‘inspection’ team. I must have passed
the ‘big test’ as I was ultimately successful in having Char marry me and to
have John in my wedding party. The last time I saw John was a little over two
years ago. Char and I were delighted to attend Lauren’s wedding and after
the wedding we were able to spend a few days at a resort on beautiful lake
Vermilion near my home town of Cook. John took the time to drive all the way
from his home on the St.Croix river to spend several hours with us. It meant so
much to Char and I to have this time with him which included a visit to Vos’s
resort. But in between the first and last times I saw John what has meant
the most to me is watching him interact and care for my own three children.
He had a gift in making everything FUN. He was certainly a great great uncle
and I was fortunate to have him as a brother in law. John worked hard and he
played hard and he left us too early. I will miss John.

I knew John since I was a small child. My brother,Ole and him were the best of friends. Ole always said, John was my first true friend in America. I have many fond memories of him coming over to watch football at our house.
Fast forward 50 years… he was there for Ole when he was sick and was a great help to me. He gave me great advice. I think of John and Ole together in heaven hanging out just like they did when they were 6 years old. God Bless. Your dad will be missed.

Some of my best memories are of going up North with my favorite cousins Char John and Sue. All the fun we had together. And the trouble we would get into. We were so lucky to live so close to each other. I will never forget his smile. RIP cousin John.

Uncle John had such a great tilt-the-head-back, mouth-wide-open, fill-the-room laugh. I still remember how cool it felt as a kid getting into his boat, riding up the St. Croix, and pulling into a marina/restaurant for Sunday brunch with grandparents and cousins.

John had an incredible personality and laugh. He was easy to talk to. I have very fond memories of bowling nights with him and Lauren, burger nights in high school and loved hearing my best friend talk about what an amazing dad he was. I am blessed to know John & the entire family. Love to all
