We were saddened by Sleepy 's homegoing . But we are happy he is enjoying himself in Heaven, no pain and a perfect body.
He has had a lot of Love in his lifetime from Mildred, his children, grand children, his parents, brothers & sisters, nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, a great sister in law Melvina Johnson and of course, Almira Simpson.
Gena you always treated your dad like a king. Gwin and Geani you brought him so much joy. He is so proud of you Dr Gaynel and Glenn& Gregory his 2 businessmen.
As Sleepy partyed in his hay days, he was very secure knowing Mildred Johnson Simpson caught his slack. She and Sleepy worked hard to see that their children had a great life, great education and lots of love.
Your family may cry for their lost , but cry knowing he had a blessed life and the world owned him nothing.
We will be praying for your strength. Love always Eloise,Brenda and Avis

If love could have kept Sleepy here on Earth, he would still be here. He new very well that he was loved by his family and friends. You children did a great job loveingly taking good care of him during his illness.
And now he is having a good time with his brothers in the golf part of heaven in his new glorified perfect body.

Gina; I'm still in awe that's why I'm late with my tribute. My Introduction to Mr. Simpson was when I moved to Atlanta and stayed with You for awhile and we came back to New Orleans for Your youngest brother's wedding, Mr. Simpson pulled Me on the side and told Me don't let nothing happen to my daughter, and I did that until she met Raphael Bruce. Mr. Simpson Thank You for giving Me that responsibility. Rest! In Heaven My Friend!❤

My Grandpa was a huge part of who I am today as a individual. While each grandparent I’ve been blessed to have throughout my life has be crucial to my growth into a Man; John Simpson was the one who showed me how to enjoy the little things in life how to slow down and appreciate the moments. How to keep a youthful spirit even after youth has left behind. It’s hard to put into synopsis how important a pillar in a family is i think his legacy and lineage left behind will try our best to carry what he meant to us thru generations to come. I adore you truly Gramps…and I will miss you

Someone else I love is golfing in heaven. Uncle Sleepy, you were in pursuit of the perfect game. Always facing challenges on the greens and trials of it's traps, and having loving arguments with your brothers, Joe and James (my dad) about who was the best. Now your last putt has dropped in the cup of life and the light of day has faded. Lord, now it's on your fairways of glory that his game will continue to be played...Love you much! I will greatly miss you and your laugh!❤️❤️

Special Tribute to Gwennie-Primary Caregiver

July 6, 2021
When my  Uncle Joe, a strong, loving father figure in my life, father's last sibling passed away,my dad really gave up as he grieved the loss of his final sibling. He dearly missed his siblings, and it was really sad to see him give up his golf clubs, stop going out with his friend, Fritz, and retire to his living room. It was apparent from his behavior and attitude; he was ready to leave this world and be with his family. I strongly believe the love and compassion, we as family had for him, sustained him to continue each day. My father's children each played different roles in his caregiving. A few examples include my oldest brother, Gregory, kept him on some weekends; I and my oldest sister (Gina Bruce) took him to his health appointments, followed by our family gathering at his favorite restaurant, AppleBee's.

In this tribute, I am especially acknowledging my middle sister Gwendolyn-Winston Simpson, who is an employed, mother of two beautiful adult children, with one adult child having special needs. I am forever grateful and thankful to my middle sister, who tireless provided day-to-day care for greater than five years. As a researcher in caregiving, I am aware of the multiple demand of caregiving (e.g. caring for her adult child with special needs and my dad) can have on your mental and physical health. Gwennie, YOU, did it and you made his final days as peaceful as possible.

Gwennie, I just want you to know from your youngest sister that I sincerely appreciate all you have done. I love you for keeping him with meals, cleaned, and providing him with emotional and instrumental support during his toughest times. I strongly believe if dad could have spoken following his stroke, he would have thanked you and shared his love for you with all his heart. Since, he could not, I am here to say, you are acknowledged, appreciated, and loved by your youngest sister for all that you have done.

With all my love,

Gaynell
