To be missed

November 28, 2020
After a year of you being gone I was reflecting on the impact you had on your family and those around you.  Your social circle, your friends and neighbors, your loving wife and those closest to you.  Even your dog.  Since I am a dog person I know dogs become attached to their humans.  I found myself ending with this.  What is the greatest sentiment we can leave to our family and loved ones when we leave this earth?  I think it's...to be missed.

Know the seeds of kindness, consideration and compassion you demonstrated here did not go unnoticed.

Rest in peace

The big house on Dublin Ct in Petaluma

March 5, 2020
John and Mel owned the big house on Dublin Ct in Petaluma directly across from ours.  I watched with delight as John worked on the backyard creating a beautiful retreat filled with interest and private areas.  I would go up to the second floor and look down into their backyard and watch what John was creating hoping to steal a few ideas for our own backyard.   What he created was a backyard paradise filled with delightful surprises, beautifully designed with places to sit and contemplate or read.   It was a treat for the eye at every turn.  Every detail was considered and created to delight the observer.  John had a great talent for garden landscaping and his backyard was a showcase.
I remember when you both returned from a road trip up in Wyoming/Montana/Colorado(?) and John absolutely had to bring back a bison head/fur and it absolutely had to hang over the second floor railings so visitors could see it when we first walked in.  If memory serves Mel you accepted it gracefully but it wasn’t exactly your style.  But John loved it so it stayed.
John had a way of making everyone feel at ease and he had a great sense of humor.  But what impressed me most was his graciousness and how he shared himself with others.  He would give me progress reports on my son, Matthew, who had gotten his first job at the local Home Depot(?).  He would say, "Oh, I saw Matt today.  He was working his isle of tools and keeping everything organized.  He seemed happy with himself."   As a mother that meant the world to me.  And then Matt would tell me he saw John and they had a nice conversation standing in the isle.  John genuinely cared about people and their welfare.  He was a good man.

Remember John

January 15, 2020
I only had a short time with John while I was selling his and Melanie’s home in Petaluma. I will never forget his friendly smile and the wonderful relationship I saw shared between the two of them. Most of all I remember is beautiful garden. He inspired me, (and I don’t think he knew that) to put life into my yard. I have been guided by what I saw he did ever since. I will think of you every-time I work in my yard now. Thank you John and may you Rest In Peace

Barefoot

January 12, 2020
Spiritual and refreshing walks on the beach
John wearing no shoes to feel the sand
George huffing and puffing
Jerry bouncing up and down childlike
The talk is soft, respectful, and measured
How can anyone forget the feeling
Happy to have been in your life
Sad we can not do it again
Rest in Peace John

Gone Too Soon by Michael Jackson

January 12, 2020
Like a comet
Blazing 'cross the evening sky
Gone too soon

Like a rainbow
Fading in the twinkling of an eye
Gone too soon

Shiny and sparkly and splendidly bright
Here one day
Gone one night

Like the loss of sunlight
On a cloudy afternoon
Gone too soon

Like a castle
Built upon a sandy beach
Gone too soon

Like a perfect flower
That is just beyond your reach
Gone too soon

Born to amuse, inspire, to delight
Here one day
Gone one night

Like a sunset
Dying with the rising of the moon
Gone too soon.
