His Life
August 15, 2011

John was a devoted husband, father, and friend.  While he was probably known as being head-strong and straight-forward, he was also extremely compassionate to those around him.  He was always there to comfort those in need and support someone during times of trial.  About a year before his death, he said, "I want to be remembered as a compassionate man."

In 1996 he was the recipient of a heart transplant after several years of heart ailments, including at least four known heart attacks.  That gave him six extra years with us, which allowed him to get to know and love who would have been his future son-in-law.  We know we would have had his blessing.  John was active in the transpllant community often making friends from around the country who were also transplant recipients.

He was a proud US Marine having served a tour of duty in Vietnam.  After being shot in the leg and arm by a sniper he was sent home.  In the recent years before his death, John became active online trying to connect with his fellow comrades from the Lima Company 3rd Battalion 3rd Marine Division.

Upon returning from Vietnam he married Lori, who he had dated before leaving for war.  After being married for ten years their only daughter, Melissa was born.  He was a devoted Christian - serving in the church as a deacon and Sunday School teacher.

John loved all things Marines, shooting pool with his best friend Larry, and going to Home Depot and having projects to build at home.  His sense of humor was out of this world and he was always ready to hear or tell a joke.  He was a devoted animal lover, especially his dogs throughout the years.  They were always his best buddies.

He is missed every day by his loved ones.  His grandchildren never got to meet him, but they know so much about him.  We make sure to keep his memory alive for them.  His grandson resembles him - having the same dimple on his cheek, the same hands, and deep brown eyes.  He also shares the love of animals, building, and Home Depot.

We love you and miss you always!
