We are celebrating your 88th birthday here and you are celebrating with Jesus. I am so thankful God gave us so many years together. So many wonderful times: birthdays, Christmases, Easters, weddings, babies, new jobs, new opportunities to serve the Lord. And, days of relaxation and renewal: attending church, vacations, working in the garden, taking a walk or a drive. Love you and miss you!

One year ago today you went to be with our Heavenly Father. I know you are doing well and I am happy for that, but I miss you so very much. You are on my mind and in my heart everyday. Not the same without you here. I know you would want me to be strong and to continue to do what the Lord has for me to do. I do my best with strength that my Lord promised. I love you sweetheart.

John it was an honor and pleasure working with you at First Baptist Church. You were a kindred spirit and we shared many good times working together. Your love and faithfulness to your family, friends, and Church were outstanding. You raised five wonderful children and I know they will continue your legacy of sharing the Lord's word. You will be sorely missed by all of us who loved you

Dearest Oom-Papa, Tears of joy for knowing you are in our Saviour's loving arms, perfect and whole. You have been a reflection of His love and an example for all. You leave behind a beautiful family that carries your work forward, sharing the Word and bringing others closer to God. Such fond memories of your tender ways, your wit, and your guidance. You are greatly missed.

What a great man and a great life! I was very sad to hear of his passing, but then I thought what more could anyone ask. Great kids who have gone on to build their own God loving families. Mr. Giordano's legacy will go on and on. And soon, we shall see him again. God Bless the Giordano family.

My memories of John are of his incredible generosity, quietness of spirit, serious but uncanny humor. I can still see him puttering around the house and the garden. I pray for your soul. My deepest thoughts and prayers to Gayle, Loureen, Carla, Tim, John, and Marco.

A smile came easily from John. Encouragement in faith was at hand. Sharing his family and home with others. Watching Leave it to Beaver reruns late at night with lots of people, all noisy, loud college kids. It was wonderful. God's peace be with you all.

I will look forward to being with you again in heaven! As a young youth pastor at FBC San Jose, God blest my life with your friendship. Your love, support, kindness and faithful encouraging support was a critical ingredient in my spiritual walk and success in youth ministry! You were a part of the life of " Sonshine" Pastor Joe

We will all miss you Uncle John. You were a kind and gentle soul who always had time to ask how things were going in your nephew's life. Whether it was over at the house, up at Hill Top, or at one of the numerous family gatherings we always had there are many good memories of you and your family. Love, David.

John was a faithful and supporting sponsor of Tri-C, FBC's College Group in the late 50's & 60's. He also was the Deacon representative for the sports programs at the church. I and many of my friends played AAA softball for many years wearing the First Baptist uniform. John was primarily responsible for that successful outreach. Thanks for your friendship and faithfulness, old friend.

John, you have always been a great inspiration to me, especially when I was going through a divorce, many years ago. Always spoke the right words at the right time. Words can't express how much I will miss you, but I rest assured you are now with the Lord, enjoying the beauty of heaven and walking on the streets of gold. Love your sister Jo

I think the living legacy of Mr. Giordano can be found in his children and grandchildren. He clearly loved the Lord and gave his life over to serving that Lord. His children are his living witness of the words I am sure Jesus said upon his entering into glory with the Lord - "Well done my good and faithful servant".

Dear Giordano Family,
I was saddened to hear of John's death. But then I was glad that his suffering had ended and he is now with the Lord. Please accept my condolences. I shared a bond of friendship with John for more than fifty years. . John's testimony was always the same, loving and caring, showing Christ's love, never judging. I will miss John . But he finished the course and kept the faith

When I met John @ First Baptist Church (now Church on the Hill), he watched out for me. Often, he would send opportunities my way that helped financially and materially. We had a bantering humor-filled relationship that was based on a mutual trust and care that is rare. My heart hurts for his family left behind, but I rejoice that he is in the Lord Jesus' presence! See you soon, John!

Katie's Memories of Papa

September 11, 2012

There are a lot I could use to say about Papa, but writing it all down would take awhile and eventually it would lead to pages of memories. So I’ll just stick with a few that are the starkest in my mind. Though my time spent with him wasn’t as long as others due to the huge distance between California and Georgia, visiting him was one of the firsts stops my family had on our list when we went around visiting relatives.

In my memories of the past the three things that stuck out to me as being things Papa loves were God, family, and gardening. The garden and the backyard filled with family stick out the most. Papa spent his time tending to the seeds freshly planted in the dark soil and walking around visiting all the other plants like they were old friends. He’d scold me when I ate too many tomatoes from the tomato plant and told me about the sweet-tasting plant Finocchio that always filled the side walkway with a sweetened licorice smell.

Whenever the family gathered together around plastic mismatched chairs in the backyard, Papa would sit and listen. He seemed to prefer to just listen to us all talk loudly and lively, content with just being around everyone. That yard with the trimmed grass catching the evening sun as me and my cousins ran across it and the cactus and lemon tree shaded by the huge tree towering next to the house are mixed in with the taste of bread crumb meat. Papa was a man of few words and when he did have something to say it was usually pretty important and meaningful.

Papa was the one who introduced me to fried eggs and to this day I don’t think anyone can make one quite like his. When I’d stay at his house, fried eggs and back rubs were usually on the lists of things that were done during the day. Giving him a back rub would earn me pocket change, but as a kid I felt like a billionaire.

Papa used to say "God willing" a lot, especially as his health declined. God willed and took papa home. God willed and gave me and my family so many great years with Him. God's will I may not always understand, but I have to trust in Him and know that it will be done according to His plan. Though the pain of losing my Papa still weighs heavily, I can find comfort in knowing that he’s gone on ahead to heaven where caner won’t ail him and where he can be with Jesus for all eternity.
