His Life

John Lee Pugh entered this earthly life and blessed his late parents, Alonzo and Lillie Tarver Pugh on March 16, 1958 in Union Springs, Alabama. He was welcomed by eight siblings who loved him dearly. John was educated in the Bullock County public schools system and graduated in 1976 from Bullock County High School in Union Springs, Alabama.

John accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age under the leadership of the pastor at St. Luke African Methodist Episcopal Church in Midway, Alabama. He served there diligently until he moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1978. Upon his arrival in Detroit, John connected with fellow believers. Later he joined the members at St. Timothy A.M.E. Church in Detroit, Michigan.

John spent his life as a self-employed automobile mechanic. On November 20, 2004, John was joined in holy matrimony to the former Tacia Powers. From this union, they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Paris LaShay and Serenity.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paris LaShay Pugh; his parents and four brothers, Joe L. Pugh, Lewis Pugh, Jerry Pugh, and Jimmy Pugh.
John’s life is celebrated by his loving wife, Tacia Powers-Pugh; his children, Kivondra (Jeffery) Rivers of Montgomery, Alabama, Veronica (Rev. Jerome) Anthony of Midway, Alabama, Johnny Johnson of Detroit, Michigan, and Serenity Washington of Detroit, Michigan; his siblings, Alonzo (Roberta) Pugh, Jr. of Oak Park, Michigan, Indavis (Doris) Pugh of Montgomery, Alabama, Iona Anthony of Opelika, Alabama, L.C. (Bertha) Pugh of Tuskegee, Alabama, and Clarence Dawson of Chicago, Illinois; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Derrick (Gloria) Powers, Wendy Powers (Eddie) Ray, Germaine Powers (Bryant) Daniels, Carolyn Powers, La’teese Powers, Yasmaine Powers, Christina Powers, La’quelle Powers, Nannette Pugh, and Sheila Pugh, all of Michigan; six grandchildren, Keondra (Rexton) Johnson, Niyanda Anthony, Jerome Anthony, Jr., Isaiah Rivers, Jayla Rivers, and Amber Rivers; one great grandchild; one aunt, Willie Mae Cobb of Columbus, Georgia; eighteen nieces and nephews; sixteen great nieces and nephews; a devoted cousin, Curtis King; and numerous other relatives and friends.

The staff of Carter Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of the late Mr. John L. Pugh and join the family in an extreme expression of gratitude for the care and support extended to them during the illness and demise of their precious loved one.
