With love and great sadness we mourn the passing of John W. Grillo who passed away at home with his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Jane.  John was the loving father of Christopher and Cynthia, father-in-law to Danielle and James, and forever Papa to Hope and Faith.  John is deeply missed by his siblings Fran, Sandra, Angela, Terry, and Joseph.  He will always be remembered by his friends, relatives, and all who were lucky enough to know him.

Words cannot even say how heartbroken we are. I remember walking into the Italian American Club for the very first time holding my father's hand at 9 years old and meeting you for the very first time. I grew up sitting on your lap at the bar, which then turned into my children sitting on your lap while growing up. You were my second father. I have loved you for 46 years, I have worked for you, with you, and shared all my deepest darkest secrets with you. I watched your Christopher and your Cynthia grow into the beautiful people they are now, which is a reflection of the beautiful man that you were. You were always there for me, no matter what, and I just don't know how I will ever get past knowing you are no longer with us.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
I love you John Grillo. You will be greatly missed by my entire family.
MaryJane, Christopher and Cynthia, my deepest condolences to you.

As I was sitting at my kitchen table thinking about going to John's viewing, I decided to try and find my CJIAC pin. It was my intention to pin it on John's lapel; however, I was unable to locate it. Of all the presidents that the Club has had, there were a few that stand out in my mind. John was one of them. He had a relentless urgency to keep the Club going no matter what perils stood in our way. It was his desire to see the Club thrive and prosper. I can remember a number of times when we agreed and disagreed on how to govern the Club. However, we always managed to come to a final decision that we all agreed on. There were lots of fun times like the times we marched in the Columbus Day Parade holding the flags . We shared many a luncheon, Christmas party and just getting together and bull throwing down at the marina. John was always worried about the Club's survival. We are and will survive. It's time to pass the torch. John Rest In Peace. You will be greatly missed both as a friend and fellow brother.

No truer friend could ever be had! You will always be remembered as "Santa" to our adult grandchildren from your Christmas Eve appearances! You will be remembered for your Italian American Club dinners by our family and the amazing deep love for your granddaughters, children and, of course, your bride, Mary Jane. Most of all you will be remembered for our treasured long time friendship as we shared stories of Code Enforcement, "ships captain", your many cars, limos, trucks, etc. But most of all our daily phone calls will be truly missed. Like Frank Sinatra, "you did it your way" and were loved by all because of it!

I will miss our frequent calls, texts and our annual birthday calls. Thank you for making the time at work from 1999-2013 fun, which made it fly by. For understanding my analglucoma call outs lol. For being there when I needed help. Believing in me when I didn’t think I was good enough. Picking me up when I was down, Always having my back! I have many fun, loving, happy memories because of you and Dennis Obrien, I will never forget you. Deepest condolences to Maryjane, family, friends and to all who knew and loved him.

Thank you for being a great father, father-in-law, and Papa. I promise I will do everything I can to ensure your wife, daughter, and granddaughters are taken care of. May you bask in all of the glory of the Lord with Christine and Mei Mae.

And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” - Luke 23:43
