John will be sorely Missed by the DeMers Family

John was an Amazing sole with a Big Family...He Always found time to be There for my Mother and the many Occasion’s that we had throughout the Year. He was a man with Great Stories from the many People he touched over his Lifetime. In addition to his own Biological Family he Always knew that he was part of Our Family as well with being with my Mom close to 40 years. They did a lot of Traveling together especially when she became an "empty nester". Mom attended many of the Installation Dinners with John and events of the Howell First Aid. They very much enjoyed each other’s Company and our Family Always looked forward to seeing him at the weekly Family Dinners that my Mom had Cooked and John Loved her Cooking ! She Always made an extra plate for him to take home. I, being the oldest of Moms 3 Sons have had Personally many varied Conversations with him from Clothes to Cadillac’s and the Good Ole Days in Newark, NJ. John was a Man of exceptional Character and integrity with the ability to touch on any subject. He took Care of my Mom as good as My own Father did.(who passed in 1968). I want to Thank his whole Family for Sharing him with Our Family for All those many Years...I especially want to Thank his daughter Liz for taking such Good Care of Him in Vermont. My Mom definitely missed John leaving for the last couple of years of Her Life. Mom passed in June of 2021 and although understandably John couldn't make it, however he made sure to send A Beautiful Bouquet of Roses. I would Also like to Thank his Daughter Jean for Creating this Website. Finally I want to Thank the Howell #1 First Aid Squad and all its Members for putting on A First Class Ceremony for John. They are Truly #1 . For myself… I want to Personally Thank you John for your Friendship, selflessness, generosity and of course for taking Such Great care of my Mom over the many Years. May God allow You all Heaven has to offer. RIP John – I will miss You ~ George DeMers

Dad- my favorite memories of you are the simple, ordinary moments - you stopping at the farm stand and bringing home fresh tomatoes, corn on the cob & watermelon. Having many bbq’s in our backyard and eating these things. Watching Lawrence Welk, Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, wide world of Sports, and even wrestling because I wanted to be by your side. You made sure we had a fun vacation every year by working 2 jobs. We sure enjoyed Wildwood & Cape May. Fishing & crabbing on Uncle Harold’s boat and boat rides in the little motorboat you owned. Thank you for giving me that kind of childhood. As I got older, you always took me to get lobster on my birthday, very special times. As an adult I will cherish our family gatherings at your home in Lakewood, and you being a patient host. And my last visit with you, poolside at the hotel in Tinton Falls. You watching me swim, great conversation, and pizza afterwards. Thank you for being that kind of dad.

His Life
February 15, 2022
John William Menschner Sr., Patriarch and Founder of the Howell First Aid & Rescue Squad #1, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2022, in Vermont. He was 95 years old.
John was born on November 17, 1926, in Newark, NJ. He moved to East Keansburg, NJ with wife Henrietta Kohn Menschner and was a member of the East Keansburg First Aid for 5 years.
John moved to Howell in 1955, and noticed there was no first aid, and thought “Maybe I can
start one.” To meet new people and find potential members, John joined the Southard Fire Dept. #1. With $1,000 from the Township, John and 9 charter members started the Howell Twp. First Aid & Rescue Squad #1. It was officially incorporated in 1957. John continued being a part of the First Aid throughout his life. John’s leadership and dedication forever changed the township of Howell, and the lives of every man and women associated with the Howell First Aid Squad.
Other things that kept John busy, were his job as a machinist at FEL in Farmingdale, working as a part-time funeral assistant for Lakewood Funeral Home, Lakewood, and Van Hise & Callaghan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant. John was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Masons.
John also had seven children with wife Henrietta. He taught them about the importance of an honest day’s work, standing by your word, and of setting a good example for your children.
He gave you honesty and wisdom whenever you asked.
John loved boats and water and he would often drive along the shore, stopping at the Manasquan Inlet to watch the boats pass by. He also enjoyed being at the Manasquan Reservoir. He was a big fan of car racing and you could often find him sitting on the bleachers at Wall Stadium. He enjoyed traveling by car and did many road trips. He was a huge Yankees fan, too.
John was a man of pride and honor. John was a Patriotic man, who loved his country and his community.
Besides Howell, John lived in Point Pleasant and Lakewood, NJ, before moving to Vermont in 2020, to live with daughter Liz in Vermont.
John is preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Charles, his ex-wife, Henrietta, daughter Jo-Ann and son Robert Menschner Sr. He is survived by 5 children, John Menschner Jr. and wife Dianne, in Oregon, Elizabeth and husband Frank, in Vermont, Carole in Florida, Jean and husband Dave, in Texas, William and wife Fran, in Howell. Grandchildren, Donald, Robert Jr., Allison, Tara, Sherri, Jenni, Janai, Crystal, Amanda and Daniel. Great-grandchildren, Connor, Emily, Tyler, Andrew, Aidan, Brady, Caleb, Jessie, Nickolas, Julian, great great grandchild, Raven. John also had 5 nieces and nephews, Cathy, Douglas, Christopher, Ellen and Susan.

Grandpa

February 18, 2022
I remember the times I would come visit you with my dad. I remember seeing you in the grandstands at Wall Stadium and how my dad would always come over to let me know you were there. The stories you would tell me about the first aid squad and our walks at Allaire. You will be missed but at least you are with your kids and ex wife. Please say hello to my dad for me. I love you R.I.P grandpa
