A native of Harris County, GA, she was the daughter of the late J. D. and Willie Ash Jones. A Licensed Practical Nurse, she retired from St. Francis Hospital after over 27 years of service. She was a devout member of Allen Temple AME Church where she served as the former church treasurer, Trustee, Steward; with the Daughters of Allen, a Sunday school teacher and with the Missionary Society. She was also a member of the Southwest Georgia Conference Lay Organization and the Ministers Spouses and Widows Association.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Presiding Elder B. C. Carswell, Sr., a son, Daniel Carswell, and a brother, Jeremiah Jones. Survivors include: a devoted son, B. C. Carswell, Jr.; three granddaughters, Catherine D. Banks (Sterling), Karyn D. Kirby (Phillip) and Carolyn Y. Carswell; a step daughter, Annie F. Hudson; two sisters, Sarah Rozier and Mary M. Senior; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
