My dearest Daddy, this tribute cannot adequately encapsulate the depth of my love and fondness of you and what you represented and stood for in my life. Indeed, you are the greatest father I could ever have wished for.

You invested time and a vast of your limited resources in ensuring that all my Six siblings and I, got the best education. I can still vividly remember how you would always drive us to school every morning and come back in the afternoon, park in the sun waiting to pick us up immediately after the school closing time. You meticulously did this daily right from my nursery and primary school days till when I finished secondary school.

You then strived, struggled and ensured I gained admission into University and whilst there, you were always there for me not only as a father, but also as a friend, counsellor, confidant and motivator.

After my graduation from University and during my mandatory youth service programme (NYSC), you continued to be that vital pillar in my support system and did not relent in your paternal care and concern over me. I recall an instance in 1997, that you were unable to contact me (then only via NITEL phone) after I finished my NYSC orientation due to the fact that I was posted to a remote area in Kogi state where there was no public phones (NITEL). One of your employees had to hurriedly travel down to look for me in a bid to put your mind at rest and dissuade you from embarking on the journey yourself.
Such was the kind of love my father had for me. Throughout the duration of my master’s programme in the UK, right till when I returned back to Nigeria and moved to Abuja in 2010, your regular phone calls to check up on me never ceased and it was indeed a source of joy for me knowing I had a father who genuinely cares and believes in me. This feeling always kept me going. During those rare occasional moments of trials and tribulations, you were always there by my side to provide the much-needed advice, guidance, support and counsel.
You were always positive and only saw opportunities whilst professing that such tough times will surely end well to the glory of the lord and which was always the case. Daddy, I will forever appreciate your rare gift of wisdom, foresight and most importantly, spiritual discernment and cover you provide over our family. Well, notwithstanding the fact that I know you are in a better place reigning with our lord Jesus Christ, your sweet memories, discipline, quality home training and fear of the Lord you instilled, will continue to encourage and see me through, in Jesus name, amen. Farewell by beloved daddy, till we meet again to part no more.

I will surely miss you badly. Although you tried severally to warn me about this inevitability, I never reckoned or envisaged it could happen this soon. You were truly a good man by all standards and whose footsteps, I will continually strive to emulate. Although I am deeply saddened by your demise, as it is written in 1 Thessalonians 5 vs 18, I give and return all glory and honour unto the Lord.

Your Son,

Oludare Nubi

Eulogy for my special Dad

Just as I started my internship after completing medical school, I became very ill and was admitted to the hospital for about a month. Dad travelled every single day without fail from Lagos to see me. After observing this pattern for a while, the Consultant in charge of my care decided to stay behind after a ward round to discuss his concern about this with me. “Why don’t you tell your Dad that he does not need to travel to see you every day?”, he asked. ““Because he will continue to do so regardless”, I replied.

There are 3 phrases that come to mind when I remember my Dad:

Deeply caring: His children were his life. Dad never did anything fancy for himself because all the resources went towards the care of his wife and children. When a student asked me how I wound up becoming a Physician, my prompt response was “But for my Dad, I won’t be where I am today”.

Committed Christian: Dad’s life revolved around his faith till he passed on to glory. He made this statement at the beginning of his walk with the Lord: “I was born again in Redeemed Christian Church of God and I will die in Redeemed Christian Church of God”. This is the way he lived his life and this assertion held true to the very end.

Candidly honest: If you really were not interested about hearing the unadulterated truth about an issue, Dad was not the right person to ask for an opinion!

I celebrate your life with pride, Daddy. You have fought the good fight of faith and passed on a blazing torch to those of us coming behind. You have left for me a legacy that will never be forgotten.

I miss your gentle nature; you were a comforting presence whenever there was a life storm.

I miss your unique expressions like “reaaaallly” in place of really; they never cease to make me laugh.

I miss your quiet nature; a true example of silent waters that run deep.

You will live on in my heart till I see you again in glory. You will be sorely missed.

In Memoriam

To the well lived, long, healthy and fulfilled life of our dearest Uncle and father figure.
For us, we’re grateful for your generosity, kindness and welcomed opportunity to integrate us as you took us into your home and family when we relocated to Lagos from Kaduna in the early days of 1980/ 81.
We were welcomed by you, your wife and our wonderful cousins and the opportunity to get to know them and become closer as a family. They were memorable days back in Dopemu, Lagos as we sought to find our own new home. In all of our time with you, you were kind, generous, prayerful and loving.
May God grant your family and us all the Grace to abide by Him and bear your heavy loss.
We pray that now, you’re received in the bosom of the Lord with greater and Omnipotent Generosity, Grace and Abundant Love from The Almighty.
Amen.

This is a tribute from the children of the Late Chief Claudius Olabowale Nubi, the uncle to our late Head of the Nubi Family, Pastor Johnson Adekola Nubi.

It is with a heavy heart, but with absolute submission to the will of the Almighty God, that we accept the demise of our late Daddy, Pastor Johnson Adekola Nubi. It is difficult to bear, but who are we to query the decision of the Almighty?
Our daddy was soft-spoken and had the welfare of the family as paramount in his heart. He was always concerned about everyone, and always asked after everyone of us, and was always very happy to hear of us making progress. We are going to miss him sorely, and our prayer is that God would strengthen the person who would take over the mantle of leadership of the family.
We know that despite the pain of losing him, and though it is our loss, he is in a better place.
May God in his infinite mercies prepare a place for him in Paradise and forgive his shortcomings!

Even in our moments of grief, we remember our dear Aunty, his close companion all these years. We pray that God will uphold her and continue to support her in these trying moments. She is certainly not going to find it 100% easy without him, however, God will comfort her! The peace of mind that passeth all understanding, and can only come from God will descend on her. She will spend the rest of her life in good health and happiness.
With abiding faith in God Almighty, we reluctantly bid our Daddy, Pastor Johnson Adekola Nubi, godspeed, we have no choice anyway!
May his soul rest in perfect peace!

Uncle Kola.  The kindest person I have ever met.

Someone who showed me such love, it wasn’t difficult to understand and see that you are closer to god than many.

Never once did you call me by my full name, you always called me ‘ Dee Dee’  which you would sing more than you would say, and always with more love than I felt I deserved.

I remember my time with you in Nigeria well. I remember all you said and all you taught me. I remember understanding exactly who my fathers elder brother was.

A man who could bring about a feeling of such warmth and protection with a single glance. I prayed i would never cause you to frown, as that my dearest daddy; I feared more than anything.

To pass is natural, and looking at all you have accomplished, all that your children have achieved; well, I can only imagine you are looking down with a smile.

And so I promise to try to smile back on this day my dearest Uncle/Father/Teacher.

You will always be in my heart, rest in peace uncle.

Dear uncle, you have fought a good fight and run a good race, a victory crown now awaits you from the Lord whom you loved. You were one of a kind, a rock for the whole family and an inspiration for many.

I will never ever forget. I got saved the day after your 50th birthday, celebrated in Ibadan at aunty Janet's. This day is recorded in heaven's archives, just one of many days full of joyous memories. Spending holidays in Eric Moore, early morning prayers, seeing you shave in your favourite seat, accompanying you to the shop in Ikeja, hearing you call my name with your unforgettable voice, "Kayode, pele o". And in the latter years, you spent your time and life for the Lord, serving him faithfully in His vineyard.

The memory of the righteous is truly blessed. Your legacy will abide for generations.

Rest in peace, uncle.

Uncle Nubi,

I remember how you fondly called me “Kemi Bow Leg” since I was a baby. Even as an adult, you always did. I have never heard of you being angry, never heard of any ill story about you. You and Aunty were always together. Everytime I see Aunty you were always right beside her.

When my daughter heard you are now with the Lord, she too had pleasant memories of her time with you in Redeem Camp.

You have ran a very good race Uncle. We love you and have solace that you are resting right in God’s hands

Daddy Nubi you were and will always be an inspiration to myself and my siblings, my Father adored you and rarely made decisions without consulting you 1st.
You have left a void in the family that will never be filled.
While we mourn today, we also take comfort in the fact that your mission on earth have been fulfilled.
We thank the good Lord for your life and bid you farewell until we meet again dear Uncle.

Pastor Johnson Adekola Nubi
1936-2021.

Writing a story of this great man is a tedious task that however must be done at his passage.
My encounter with him left me with no doubt that marrying my wife is also to reckon with him and the rest of the family. He was a fountain of love not only to his family but also to all those who interacted with him.
He had a protective ring over his children and ditto for all those who came in contact with him and I can say I am a beneficiary.
One interesting incident about him that became the joke at our home was when I went in the early 80s to Phoenix motors to service my car and having been told he was once their general manager decided to mention his name. The crowd of workers chorused ‘ile a poyi’ translated the ground will turn and it became his nickname for me.
I found in him, a very religious, kind, and generous and trusting father. You cannot but love him for his profound love for God and humanity, simply put God’s resourceful man of the masses.
Watching for over 39years of my contact with this loving man, I can’t say with certainty if I ever saw him angry at me or his children who all have turned out very successful offspring of this man.
So what can we say other than to thank God for an illustrious life spent as a special man of God.
I celebrate him and ask the Lord to repose his beautiful soul.
On a final interaction with him before his death, it was the worry of not wanting to miss the Jericho hour that he hosts every Wednesday because of his swollen legs but when the legs were returning to normal and he was certain to start again, the Lord took him away on the same Wednesday.
Praise the Lord for his mercies and May his soul Rest In Peace. Amen

I’ve been contemplating what to write as a tribute; I’ve mused over the right words to convey my thoughts, yet each time I’ve come up short - I’m too numb, too hurt, too shocked- a myriad of emotions!
In the meantime, I am thankful that I was able to connect again with you as an adult; it was a far cry from my childhood days in ShellClub! I got to fellowship with you; I got to experience the ministry the Lord had entrusted you with, and talk to you about life. You were such a blessing to me.
You are loved and will be greatly missed. You ran your race excellently and I’m sure a crown is awaiting you.
Daddy sleep well, you will always be memorialized in our hearts❤️❤️❤️

The journey of eight decades started with love, laughter, friendship and having each other’s backs. My brother was truly unique and embodied all the wonderful qualities of a brother and a big brother to boot. He was always dependable and embodied the qualities of being Christ-like.

His wonderful personality made him a magnet for people and his brilliant sense of humour was always on constant display. This sense of humor is infectious as he would recall early year memories of us growing up in the village and at the end of the joke, he and everyone else is rolling with laughter.

As we have gone through life and have become older, he has continued to look after his only little (grey-haired) sister, constantly visiting me (together with mama Tokunboh) at home and when I have been at the hospital. He looked after me, cared for me and loved me even till his last days. He walked with me in the hospital when I refused to do my physiotherapy while on admission. He said “Janet” I would walk with you. He held my hands and walked around the ward with me. My pillar of strength, my ever-supportive and loving brother.

I will miss my dear brother, who no one on earth can ever emulate. Egbon mi, “Omo Meji Ogidi Omo Tunlako, Omo Eleruwon aso di Meso”. Good night Egbon mi.

I first met Daddy Nubi, along with mummy  in 1980 when i became friends with his first child Tokunboh, having introduced myself as a niece to his late friend Uncle Laide Adeboye, I became a part of the family.
Daddy was a very caring father who welcomed his children's friends as his own children. We were always welcome in his house and he was always ready to correct us whenever we went wrong. I remember vividly the friday night vigils we used to have at Eric Moore Towers. He will be sorely missed by all of Tokunboh's friends.
Daddy has gone to sleep and we will all waken gloriously on the day of ressurection.

TRIBUTE TO DADDY NUBI

Daddy,  your death came as a very huge shock to me. I thought it was a dream initially but had to come to terms with reality when I visited your home in Lekki and found out it was true.
Daddy, the vacuum you have left in our lives cannot be filled by anybody.

I remember when I used to come for holidays at Ericmoore towers. You actually taught me how to pray and was always very caring.

Your memory will forever remain  in our hearts daddy.

Rest on daddy. Will miss you forever.

TRIBUTE TO PASTOR NUBI

May 10, 2021
This Tribute is on behalf of my mum Matilda Olubomi Ayodele to late Pastor Kola Nubi.

Late Pastor Kola Nubi was my in-law who was more like a blood brother to me and fondly referred to me as " Sister"in Ijebu tone.

He was so close to me and highly very caring and prayerful too. He would always call me to pray for me with his wife Nike my sister. He was so much loved by everyone in my family.

I remember the role himself and his wife played when  my husband was ill in 2006. He would come all the way to Ibadan to pray for my husband before his demise but God knows best.

The kind of bond that existed between him and his wife can never be forgotten easily. I pray God Almighty  will uphold and strengthen your wife and children.

The pain of losing you is so heavy in my heart but I pray that someday, we will all meet at the Lord's feet in heaven to part no more.
May your gentle soul rest in perfect peace.
