His Life

John “Johnny” Weg

February 8, 2022
Johnny, 60, was born on October 5, 1961 in Queens, New York and moved to Howell, NJ in 1963 where he lived for the majority of his life until passing away on February 6, 2022.

Johnny always knew he wanted to be a Police Officer to help others.  He started his career as a Police Officer in 1985 in Marlboro Township, NJ for two years before becoming a Howell Township Police Officer for the remaining 28 years of his distinguished career.  He was a Field Training Officer for numerous police officers over the years, many of who credit him for the success they had in their careers.  He was Team Leaderfor Howell Township Emergency Services Unit and member of the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team.  Johnny was Sergeant at Arms for the PBA Executive Board and Coordinator of the Special Needs Annual Bowling Party for numerous years, an annual event near and dear to his heart.    However, in speaking with his fellow brothers and sisters, it’s the legacy he left with them that is his greatest accomplishment.  Johnny was always sought after for guidance “on what was right, not necessarily right by the letter of the law, but what was the right thing to do”.  He was a true “Cops Cop”.

Johnny was predeceased by his parents, Lenny &Terry and his brother Lenny.  He is survived by his son, Sean Jake; former spouse, Patricia; his Aunt Ro; his brother Tommy and sister-in-law, Gloria; his sister Tee and brother-in-law John Brown; his sister Karen and brother-in-law George Butkus; his sister in-law Patti, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who adored their “Uncle Jake”.

Johnny wasn’t just an amazing Police Officer - he was an amazing son, nephew, brother, cousin, uncle, friend and most of all, an amazing Dad.  Everyone who knew him, knew everything about his Sean Jake.  Johnny never missed a football game since Sean was in 4th grade, he went to over 200 games even driving hours to watch him play his college games.  They went on numerous vacations skiing and going to different Caribbean locations and they loved going out on Johnny’s boat.  Sean Jake was Johnny’s pride and joy and everyone knew it; he was Johnny’s proudest accomplishment.
