Thank you Roger for making my mother, Ana Welch so happy while you were together! I have such fond memories of you and Ana dancing at Liz and John's wedding. You two were amazing dancers, and you were always smiling. Your jokes and sense of humor were unique! The Welch family misses you very much, but we feel very blessed to have had you touch our lives. With love, Jan

Jolly, when I arrived at your house for the first time back in 1962, I was so scared, you went out of your way, in your usual gracious way, to make me feel at ease as I went on to meet all the rest of the family for the first time. I have always enjoyed and appreciated the many times you, Audrey and Kevin came to visit us. I will miss your jokes and smile. I loved you like a brother. Lill

I must admit I never met Roger but I do know his son and when someone says " The acorn does not fall to far from the oak" it had to pertain to Roger. The oak must have passed along all of his attributes and work ethics to the acorn. GOD BLESS YOU ROGER. VAYA CON DIOS

Just a wonderful soft soul. Uncle Jolly was such a good person and I will always cherish the moments we had together throughout my life. He tought me so many things, the games we played, the times he tried to confuse me with his mathematical equations, talked for hours upon hours and most of all was there for me when I most needed him. You will greatly be missed in my heart. Love always.

Oh, so many memories with papaw.....from the first time I met him when I was in high school to my wedding day to the birth of his two granddaughters to all the family gatherings....one thing I will always remember about him is that he always had a smile on his face...and that is an image I will hold in my heart forever.

Jolly was a first cousin of my mother, Madge Burchett Miller. I can remember visiting Aunt Ola and Uncle Wilford and all the family when they lived on Big Perry. Jolly was always so happy and had a lovely smile. I always admired all the love among the brothers and sisters -- such a close knit family. Edna and I extend our deepest sympathy, love and prayers to all the family.

And finally I cry, heart swelling up in my chest, aching inside pulling in a breath. He has an influence on 'my being' and I can only hope not to be a disappointment. He observed when I thought nobody knew, he quietly approached...very unassuming...but in an encouraging manner. Taking it in, without a smile raising an eye brow when surprised but never the less thinking,...concerned, hoping

Dear Jolly, you were an amazing big brother to us. You lived a good, honest life; you adored your family; and you earned the utmost love and respect from us. You out shined us all with your wonderful positive attitude, that youthful skin, and, oh, how we all envied those beautiful full lips of yours! And, we will never forget to "think thin"!  Will miss you so much. Love..

God called a very dear friend to come home to be with Him.  We were very reluctant to let him go, but when God calls we must go.  Where Jolly went there is no more tears, sorrow, pain or death.  Can't you just see Jolly walking those golden streets, and what a joy to be able to talk to mom and dad.  What a rejoycing moment that would be to see and be with all the friends and realtives that have gone on before.  I am just talking about home, what a wonderful place this must be.  Jolly and our family have had some wonderful times.  He was just like a brother to me; I love and miss him so much.  He will be missed by so many.  Life is so precious and each day is a gift, so enjoy every minute as if it were your last.  Nothing is forever in this life, life goes so fast so cherish your loved ones; hug them tight, love them with all your heart.

We love you Jolly and miss you,
Bob and Alice Shay

Much more than a Brother

Jolly Roger Burchett

How do you start talking about a man like Jolly? He was my brother, my friend, and my buddy. I’m proud to say, that only by the grace of God that Jolly was 1 of 12 of the closest knitted family in the country. By blood we were brought together, by choice this family became friends to stay together. Jolly loved the chance to be with family, if any thing was planned he was the first to want to know what time and place. With a 6 to 7 hour drive, he would always check in and tell me he was leaving and see you tonight and leave the door unlocked. I was so thankful for the past 20 years, 4 to 5 times a year; he called our house his home away from home.

I will never understand how our bonds got so close with me being the youngest and him being the oldest of 7 boys. (But he did love Sandy’s cooken). But our friendship was much more than friends, he was my buddy. We wanted to talk every week 1 to 3 times. We could and did dump everything on each other. Oh how I miss him now! We will never know how great heaven is in this life, but my prayer is that Mom, Dad, and now Jolly are together and looking down on us and saying, “Be thankful that this is your loss for a short time, but our gain for eternity. We will see you later”.

For now I will always love you and miss you, my brother, my friend, my buddy. Doug
