The airlines and cruise industries lost a loyal customer on
May 24, 2021. Josefina "Baby" Merto Berroya Rich passed away at
age 70.
A world traveler at heart, Josefina loved visiting quaint
places that fascinated her: Mt. Everest, Mongolia, Paraguay, Copper Canyon in
Mexico, and the favelas of Brazil which reminded her of her medical outreach
work in the Philippines. She loved the thrill of roller coasters, speed boats,
parasailing, and zip lining while traveling. She also loved visiting her
friends from high school and medical school.
Josefina inherited her intellectual curiosity and work ethic
from her parents, Attorney Augusto Modesto Berroya and Candeleria Losloso
Merto (teacher). She attended high school at Maryknoll Academy. She
graduated from Manila Central University with a Doctor of Medicine degree,
Obstetrics and Gynecology specialization. In addition, Josefina was a U.S.
trained and licensed Registered Nurse in California. A solid healthcare worker
throughout her professional career, she retired from a Federal Correctional
Institution, Dublin after over 18 years of service.
Josefina is survived by her husband, Roger; two daughters,
Jo Anna and Joan; and two sisters, Marietta and Arlene.
Visitation will be on Sunday, June 13, 2021, 4:00PM - 7:00PM
PST at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94544.
Memorial Services will be on Monday, June 14, 2021, 12:00PM
- 1:30PM PST at Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd, Hayward, CA 94544.
The funeral will be in person and livestreamed online.

Si Josefina ay manlalakbay sa buong mundo.
Natutuwa si Josefina na bistahin any mga kakaibang lugar na hinahangaan
niya: Mt. Everest, Mongolia, Paraguay, Copper Canyon sa Mexico, at ang
mga favelas ng Brazil na nagpapaalala sa kanya ng kanyang gawaing
medikal sa Pilipinas. Paborito ni Josefina ang sumakay sa mabilis na
roller coaster, speed boat, race car at mahilig siyang mag- parasailing,
at zip lining kapag naglalakbay. Gustung-gusto rin niya ang bumisita sa
kanyang mga kaibigan mula sa high school at medikal na paaralan.
Namana
ni Josefina ang kanyang intelihente at sipag sa pagtatrabaho mula sa
kanyang mga magulang na sina Abogado Augusto Modesto Berroya at
Candelaria Losloso Merto (guro). Nag-aral siya ng high school sa
Maryknoll Academy. Nagtapos siya sa Manila Central University na may
degree na Doctor of Medicine, pagdadalubhasa sa Obstetrics at
Gynecology. Si Josefina ay nagtapos ng nursing at may lisensiya siya
ng Nursing sa California. Nagretiro siya mula sa Federal Correctional
Institution, Dublin pagkatapos ng mahigit sa 18 taong paglilingkod
bilang manggagawa sa kalusugan.
Naiwan ni
Josefina any kanyang asawang si Roger; dalawang anak na sina Jo Anna at
Joan; at dalawang kapatid na sina Marietta at Arlene.
