On Friday, May 22, 2020, Joseph Austin Wimbush, Sr., was called home to be with our heavenly Father.  Joseph was born on June 23, 1930, to the late Willis and Annie Wimbush. He was the oldest of three and was known as “Bush” to all who knew him.

He attended Frederick Douglas High School through the 11th grade and often stated that he wished he had graduated. At the age of 20, he enlisted in the Army and served 4 years. On February 17, 1956, he married the late Mary Anna. Out of this union they were blessed with three children, Althea (known as Peaches), Tina, and Joseph, Jr.  Joseph spent the majority of his career as an Auto Body Repairman…and he was excellent at it! Due to arthritis in his hands, he left that field and began working at Bolling Air Force Base as a driver. He later retired from Bolling and worked for Keller Transportation and then Brandywine Auto Parts.  Joseph enjoyed life. If he wasn’t fishing, you could find him at home watching westerns, a Redskins football game, or some other sport. He was an advid TV watcher and reader! He also enjoyed playing cards, pokeno, and bingo at the Senior Citizen Recreation Center. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren…as his granddaughter Faith would say, he was our “Sexy Dex.” We will miss not hearing his whistling and his “hello love” greeting.  Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Anna, and his son Tyrone Gray. Those remaining to celebrate his life with love and cherished memories are his children Renee Williams; Peaches Wimbush; Tina Wimbush; Joseph Wimbush (Nekecia); Shirley Goldine (James); and DeCarlos Washington (Heather); 1 brother Louis Wimbush; 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 3 great, great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
