Joseph Christian “Chris” Whetstone, Jr., 71, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away Tuesday, May 21. 2019 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
He was born September 25, 1947 in Chattanooga, TN and grew up in Savannah, GA to the late Joseph Christian Whetstone, Sr. and Laura Dukes Whetstone of Savannah, GA.  
He was a Benedictine Military School graduate, an Air Force electrician who served in England during Vietnam and retired from CertainTeed Roofing Corporation after 42 years of service in Savannah, GA, Shakopee, MN, and Oxford, NC. 
Memorial services will be conducted at 4:00 PM Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Eakes funeral Home Chapel in Oxford by Rev. Will Breedlove.  Burial will be private.
Surviving are his loving wife, Carol Palmer Whetstone of Oxford, NC.  His sons James Whetstone and Daniel (Missy) Whetstone of Savannah, GA and his daughter Becky Whetstone of Oxford, NC.  His six grandsons Jacob (Emma) Whetstone, Cole Whetstone, Tucker (Morgan) Whetstone, and Luke Whetstone.  His granddaughters Leah and Logan Whetstone.  His great – grandchildren Riley, Walker, Hayleigh, and a baby boy due in October.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday, May 26, 2019 at Eakes Funeral Home in Oxford prior to the memorial service.

We are thinking of you guys. Seems like Mr. Whetstone never missed the opportunity to ask how we were and what was going on in our lives. He will be missed.
