His Life
May 21, 2013

Joseph F. Costanzo, "Joe", went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 18, 2013, after a heroic four month battle with cancer.

He was born in Newark, NJ in 1944, where he lived until moving to Toms River in 1964.

Joe received two Purple Hearts while serving in the United States Army, and was the first veteran to be awarded the Medallion of the Township of Dover, March 3, 1967. He was awarded this medal for his bravery during his tour in Vietnam, where he incurred extensive injuries, including the loss of both hands, while disarming enemy mines.

He worked as a Warden in the elephant/rhino barn in Safari Park at Great Adventure, in Jackson, NJ, for 35 years until his retirement in 2010.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Costanzo, former Newark Police Officer, grandson Devyn Costanzo, and step-son Stephen Stiansen.

Joe is survived by his loving wife Laine Costanzo; his children Joann Prado, Victoria Marin and Joseph Costanzo; step-children Eric Stiansen and Kristen Blazanin; his beloved mother Thelma Costanzo and his dear sister Patricia Stockowski. He is also survived by his grandchildren Lauren, Morgan, Steven, Sophia, Brandon, Celia, Jose, Joseph, Logan, Dylan and Jordan; and former wife Ann.

Joe will be greatly missed.

At Joe's request, there will be no services.
