The son of the late John and Louise Alston Jones, Mr. Jones was born in Wake Forest, NC on February 24, 1934. He was a U. S. Army Veteran who retired following 23 years of service to his country. He was also retired after 17 years with Civil Services, Ft. Benning, GA. Mr. Jones was a devout and dedicated member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Phenix City, AL where he served as a Deacon, Usher and with the Finance and Trustee Boards. He had also obtained a degree from Meadows Business College. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Mrs. Lillie Sumbry Jones, a grandchild, Mario Bedell-Jones, and his father-in-law, Mr. A. B. Sumbry.

Surviving his departure with cherished memories, include: three sons, Andre Jones (Stephanie), Micheal Jones (Shanitha) and Joseph Jones, Jr. (Tammy); two daughters, Alethia Jones and Tracey Jones Gaines (Marcello); twelve grandchildren, a sister, Johnelle Powell (James); his mother-in-law, Mrs. Nellie B. Sumbry; two brothers-in-law, Alvin Sumbry and Josiah Sumbry; a host of other loving relatives and friends.
