One of the nicest people I ever met. I wasn’t around much but when I was he and Nancy made me feel so welcome. Way too young to leave this earth. I know he will be missed by many.
I’m so sorry for the family and for your loss. Sonny and I will always remember him. I know we will see him again one day.

One year, Randy and I were visiting Joe and Nancy while watching the Superbowl and Joe came by noticing I was a bit chilly. He asked if i wanted a blanket and i said, "Yes please!" He went back to the laundry room and came out brushing a warm blanket. He put it over me and I will always remember how good that felt! As he put the blanket over me he said, "I like my women warm." We all laughed. He certainly had a sense of humor!

Joe August was a warm, kind, wonderful man who happened to be my in-law and fellow grandparent to 3 of our grandchildren. He and Nancy enjoyed hosting holiday dinner parties and my husband Randy and I were fortunate to be invited to many of them. On one particular Thanksgiving I was in the kitchen with him as he prepared part of the meal and he complimented me saying,"Char you're a really great dresser!" I loved hearing that and it stuck with me. It wasn't just "I like your outfit" or "nice pants" he was complimenting me as a person who dresses well!

Celebration of Life

March 9, 2019

Dear Family and Friends,

There will be a Celebration of Life for Joe on May 5, 2019:

  • Elks Lodge
  • 109 S. School St.
  • Grass Valley
  • 1:00 pm

Please join us to celebrate a loving man who left us much too soon.

You can RSVP to Nancy at augustjn@gmail.com, (530) 559-9715 or contact any family member.

Dress casually, Joe hated having to get dressed up, and no sad faces! He wouldn't have wanted that.

Love to you all,

Nancy

Early Family Times

April 14, 2019

Joe, his brother Richie, his sister Nancy and their mom Blanche took many family trips when he was a teenager and young adult.  One of their favorite places to visit was Yosemite.

Family First

April 14, 2019

My Uncle Joe always put family first.  He was a loving uncle, brother, son, husband, and father.  As I was looking through old photos, time after time I came across Joe and his family.  As an adult, Joe always put his family first and foremost in his life.  They were his everything, the drive behind every decision he made.

Trend Setter Joe

April 9, 2019

Recently Joe told me the story of how at a young age, he became the recipient of a small tatoo on his arm.  I did not know he was such a hip trend setter and led the way for those that have followed! We laughed together as he shared this story-both of us opening up about fun/memorable events throughout our lives.Being around Joe was like being with a friend you'd known for a lifetime. His warm, caring and compassionate ways still fill my heart with warmth and have a daily and lasting impact on us all. Wishing Love and Light to Nancy, Ryan and Kyle and the family.
