Joe was a New Yorker at heart but lived the past 35 years in CA, where he worked for many years as a chef at prestigious hotels. He was a handsome, loving, caring, funny and thoughtful man with beautiful blue eyes, who inspired those around him. His first love was his family.

Also survived by his beloved brother, Michael Green, of CA, whom he cared for deeply and his beloved sister, Sandra Alestra of NY who was the apple of his eye. Also survived by Shelley Eckstein, who was like another sister.

Joe will be laid to rest by his father’s side, Joseph Alestra Sr.  and his grandparents in his hometown of Mullica Hill, NJ. He will be mourned by countless aunts, uncles, cousins as well as friends and family from coast to coast. Joe embraced life, had a strong religious faith and enjoyed being with family, travel, theater, music, martial arts and anything Italian. Joe was a warm and loving person who was loved by all.

I have know Joey (that’s what I called him) since he was 11 although we were not related by blood only by marriage, I always thought of him as my nephew, and still do. We had a special bond , we spent a lot of time together we use to go to wrestling matches, we always talked Food and new recipes. He was truly an inspiration to me, no matter what he was always positive! He will forever be in my heart and on my mind. I miss you

Best brother in law

Joe's passing is such a tragic event. He connected so deeply to those around him, even animals. Watching him with his bird, or around our cats when he visited, truly revealed the big heart he had. His love for family and his passion for life will be an inspiration and a fond memory for all. I know that his love for his family sustained him, as did his faith in God. May he find eternal rest and watch over us all from above.
