Joseph Donald Moody died peacefully at his home near Creedmoor, NC on April 20, 2012 at the age of 81.

Don fought a ten-year courageous battle against a progressive degeneration of the autonomic nervous system called Shy/Drager Syndrome.

He was born in Lake Wales, Florida on March 7, 1931 to Ism Lawton Moody and Fannie Purvis Moody.  Upon graduating Frostproof High School in 1948 he left Florida the following day to enter Mars Hill College in North Carolina where he began to prepare for the Baptist Ministry which he continued at Wake Forest College.  Later, he attended Elon College in Business and Accounting studies.

Don and Bettye Roberts met at Mars Hill College and were married in 1951.  Vann Lawton Moody was born in 1952 and Suzanne Roberts Moody in 1955.

National Guard and taught C & GS classes.

Don’s civilian career spanned 38 years with Western Electric and AT&T in Burlington and Greensboro as three years in Kearney, N.J.  His dedication to Guardian Ad Litem was very important to him.  For the past twenty years, he has given out Bibles with the promise that it would be read in its entirety.

Our condolences to Betty and Don's family. I worked for Don from 1982 until his retirement and knew him to be one of the finest people I ever met. I have thought about him many times over the last few years and about how I learned a great deal from him and how I admired his leadership.

Our condolences to Bettye and family. Don hired me to work in his department at Western Electric in Burlington, December 1968. I was a recent Elon grad and a Viet-Nam Vet verbally committed to a job offer from Union Carbide but Don insisted I come with him, a decision I never regretted. I am saddened by his passing.
