Joseph William Kapherr, Sr. passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at his home. He was born in Memphis Tennessee on January 23, 1928, the son of Albert and Reta Kehoe Kapherr. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Air Force. Following his tour of duty with the Air Force, he attended N.C. State College, School of Engineering and later UNC Chapel Hill, School of Business. He was a Professional Engineer, with offices in Durham, Raleigh and Wilmington during his career. After retirement from his private practice, he was with the NC Department of Labor and the Department of Construction.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at Creedmoor United Methodist Church,214 Park Avenue, Creedmoor by Rev. Jared Hanson, Dr. Everette France and Dr. J.C. Alexander. Burial will be in Creedmoor Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, the former Fannie Lou Dove, his son, Joseph William Kapherr, Jr. (Dianne), his grandsons, William Houston Kapherr and Allen Joseph Kapherr; his brother, Steven Rider and his sister-in-law, Sue D. Garner. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Michael Rider and his daughter Katherine Kapherr.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2014 from 12:30 PM -2:00 PM prior to the funeral service at Creedmoor United Methodist Church and at other times at the home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Creedmoor United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 368, Creedmoor,NC 27522.
