Tribute To Queen Mary Joyce Woods

Your passing away our beloved Queen and sister, Mary Joyce Woods, was very shocking and depressing, having seen you at an OLAMIOSA related function a few days earlier looking radiant and good. Difficult to believe, but we can’t question it. She has gone to rest.

Mary was a lovely person; calm, ready to help and never shy away from radiating love to those around her. She was a dedicated and hardworking Treasurer of OLAMIOSA, and has been very supportive in our interventions. In this sad moment of her loss, we celebrate her life, and the good she has done among us to ensure that together, Maryway continues to succeed in educational excellence and good report.

I condole with her children, family, friends, and OLAMIOSA family.  Parting is ever difficult, but may her soul rest in perfect peace with the Lord.
Dr. Rosetta Bola Thompson, OLAMIOSA

TRIBUTE TO A DEAR SISTER, CHILDHOOD FRIEND AND CLASSMATE

Joyce, how do I talk about you or where do I start? I called you Joyce and you called me Doja for that's what we called ourselves since the 1950s even before I knew we were related. We were together in Primary School, Sacred Heart Convent School, Idikan, Ibadan. Again we continued together in the same Secondary School, Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Maryway, Ago-Tailor, Ibadan. For a while, we went our different ways in the 90s as I moved out of Ibadan with my family to Ondo State and then to Abuja. Thank God we reconnected again in 2014 and as Sisters we continued our relationship. We never stopped hearing from one another even up to about two weeks to your home calling. You had called to talk about how we and other classmates of ours can come together to do something for our Alma Mater. You're a rallying point!
It was so shocking and very painful to learn about your demise. I couldn't comprehend it and I wondered how come at this time; I had looked forward to celebrating with you on your 70th birthday. However, we can't ask God any question for He is God and the owner of life. He has the final say over every life created by Him.
I am feeling pained in my heart right now. You're the one that often gave me news about our distant relatives, even those I have forgotten; you will remind me and give me information about such relatives. Ah, Joyce, this is a very bitter and hard pill to swallow but I take consolation in the fact that you lived as a true Christian. You cared and loved people that you had opportunity to meet.
The Old Students Association (OLAMIOSA) caused us to work together, especially during the last Convention in 2019, when we served on the Finance Committee. You worked so honestly and very meticulously like someone that studied Accounting.
I love you my dear Sister and you will ever remain in my heart. To say that I will miss you is an understatement. I will miss calling you to seek clarification on some matters when I need to. Sleep on, my dear Sister, childhood friend and classmate. Enjoy perfect rest in the bosom of the Lord Jesus Christ until the Resurrection morning when we shall meet to part no more.

TRIBUTE TO A CLASSMATE, FRIEND AND SISTER

Joyce Mary Woods, my classmate, friend and my sister as we call each other. To say the news of your sudden departure came as a rude shock is an understatement. It is sad and very devastating especially because you seemed so full of life about two weeks earlier when the video showing you dancing when you represented OLAMIOSA at a function was posted on our platform.
You had always been quiet, peaceful and loving while we were in school. We went our different ways but the minute you knew where I was you reconnected with me, sending those coming to Lagos from Oshogbo to deliver your notes and pictures of our time in school to me in the office.
I saw a new Joyce as the National Association of our Alma Mater Our Lady of Apostles Girls Secondary School, Maryway, Ibadan (OLAMIOSA) came into being. She served selflessly with integrity, humility while embracing all with love and warmth as she bubbled with life.
Joyce we were always chatting and our last discussion this July was your intention to bring our classmates together and create a WhatsApp platform so we can plan to do something for our school. You even contacted those outside the country who are really shocked by your demise. Man proposes God disposes, but who are we to question God who knows best.
You have left a memory nobody can steal as you live on in our hearts, mind and thoughts. May the Lord grant your family and all of us the fortitude to bear the great loss.
Joyce, beautiful soul, we shall miss you. Rest in perfect peace in the bosom of your maker.
Adieu till we meet on the ressurection morning.

The news of your sudden demise came to me like a rude shock.
Mama Woods as l fondly called her was a kind hearted woman who gave me full support and encouragement when l newly joined the service of IITA. She was Caring, loving and ready to help others whenever need arises.
I could remember vividly that despite the age disparity, she was with me during the funeral rites of my late brother at Ijebu-Iloti in January 2019 never minding that we were no longer working together.
To her, everybody counts.
A woman who epitomizes a real human character has gone forever. Rest on sweet mum till we meet to part no more. Adieu JOYCE!!!!!!

My mummy, I never ever imagined I will be writing a tribute this soon. Hummmm. I am in SHOCK, I never had the slightest clue you were leaving.
You had said you wanted a quite 70th birthday and would come stay in UI but we had been planning to surprise you. If only we knew God had a greater surprise for us! I don't want to live in regret of 'if only I had done this' you asked me to charge your phones and I was still arguing with you asking if that was necessary ( stubborn Abiola as usual). My mummy I hardly said I love you but all my actions did, although I know you loved me more.
Thank you for everything ma, the love and care you showered on Vincent and Adela can not be quantified. You took Great care of them since the day they were born.
You loved all who came in contact with you, your siblings your nieces , nephews, their spouses, children, their in-laws, you knew practically all my friends, my colleagues and cared for them. You remember every birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Who will we call to come take care of the new babies? Who will we call for medical advice?
People I have never met, some I have met have all been calling saying you did this good to them. My mummy I have started getting the reward of your labour.
I cannot find the right words now.
With faith in God, I believe you are with your maker. I will keep praying for the happy repose of your soul. Pray for me too ma. All your heart desires for me that I used to tell you not to worry, all will be well with me, now please ask God for me.
I promise to be more patient ,less stubborn, less jagajaga. With God's grace I will be there for Ololade and Larry. I will be a good mother to Vincent and Adela and I will be giving Philip plenty pieces of meat ( like you do) .
Rest well Mama Jay
Your dearest Abiola

I came across Ms Wood in IITA Clinic Ibadan where she came to work as a nurse. She was a loving person to work with. So dedicated to service, very thorough in her practice. She was ready to share with whatever burden you have. I remembered the time we shared together as a team in the nurse's office. She would bring something to share with us during break.
I commiserate with the family. Biola, your mum was very fond of you. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Adieu

You made work easy for everyone with your very nice accommodating nature. A professional nurse to the core.Always passionate about the people around her. A generous giver. Timileyin will never forget your yearly gift and the visit to your house in Ayede Ring Road where you will pluck grapes for her.

OLAMIOSA (Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Maryway, Odo-Ona, Ibadan Old Students Association) has lost a GEM!
The news of the sudden demise of Queen Joyce Mary Woods, a prominent member of OLAMIOSA Oyo State Chapter and National Treasurer of OLAMIOSA worldwide, which brokered on 10 July 2021, came as a rude shock to our association. Tears flowed unrestrained, and emotions ran high among many of us. The questions on our lips were many. Why would God suddenly call home one of our very best, our financial guru, just a few weeks to her 70th birthday? We were looking forward to celebrating with her. None of us saw it coming, nor dreamt of it. The truth is, when the Way Maker and Owner of Life comes knocking at anyone’s door, none can restrain Him. So we have no choice other than to accept the verdict of the Almighty God concerning our sister Joyce Mary.
Queen Joyce Mary Woods attended Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Maryway, Odo-Ona, Ibadan from 1963 to 1967. She was in the boarding house throughout her stay in the school and was a member of the Our Lady of Apostles House (Green House).
Though her departure was impromptu, we relish in the warm memories of her quintessential accomplishments. A GEM to the core , she was. She would easily qualify for an angel given the way she humbly yielded herself to the service of others. Queen Joyce gave her very best to the OLAMIOSA family and her immediate community at Akinyemi Way, Ring Road, Ibadan.
Queen Joyce Mary served OLAMIOSA meritoriously at the local and national levels, taking on many tasks of leadership without expecting pecuniary rewards. She was a major pillar in the association’s efforts towards rebuilding the collapsing infrastructures of our alma mater in 2018. She was among the trio who volunteered their time and resources for the supervision of the initial works of renovatiion and reconstruction of the dilapidated structures and facilities of our school. Herself and other devoted queens reported daily at the school for upwards three months in the last quarter of 2018 to ensure that all the planned renovations, reconstruction works were delivered before our 1st National convention in December 2018. Shortly before the Convention, the school had begun to wear a new impressive look that drew encomiums from all and sundry, including the Rev.Bishop Abegunrin of Ibadan Catholic Diocese on the new look of our school. All this courtesy of queens like Joyce Mary who gave their time to make it possible.
As the National Treasurer of OLAMIOSA Worldwide, she deployed very rare sense of dutifulness and accountability in discharging the functions of that office. She was very meticulous, dependable and transparent in her financial dealings. No single kobo of OLAMIOSA has been unaccounted for or missing since she was elected National Treasurer in December 2018 to the time of her demise.
Blessed with an amiable personality, Queen Joyce Mary was a friend to both the young and old in our association. She readily accepted assignments on behalf of the association. Her most recent outing was leading a team of OLAMIOSA queens to the 1-year remembrance of late Senator Abiola Ajimobi, former penultimate Governor of Oyo State. She glowed and glittered at the event that no one would suspect that she was soon to leave us.
Queen Joyce, has played her part nobly and meritoriously. She came, she saw and she has conquered. Glory be to the Lord. May her memory be a blessing to all of us in Jesus’s name.

- Mrs Valentina Titilayo Solarin (neé Shewu)
National President, OLAMIOSA

So sad to learn about your sudden departure. You gave me support and encouragement when I was new in IITA. Throughout our time together in IITA Medical Centre, you were passionate about my welfare and my family's. I will never forget all you shared with us. You were kind, thoughtful, caring and courageous. You hate to see fellow human beings suffer. No amount of words can express how we feel about your demise. O d'arinna ko, o d'oju ala. Mama Woods, continue to rest in the bosom of your Lord.

Mary as we used to call her when we were in school 1963/67
Mary loved with passion and feels concerned about everyone.
I'm very shocked to hear of her passing on
She called me some weeks ago to discuss about donation to our Alma mater (OLA), which she was working on before she passed on.
May her soul rest in peace.

Mama Woods.
Words are not enough to recount your impact in my life as a role model.
You laid the foundation of a unique professional nurse I am today.
Your selflessness can't be compared with anyone else, nurturing all of us in IITA Clinic like your children and being a strong support system for all.

Mama J, Our Aunt Joyce, Our Mother and Grandmother, Our Nurse, Our Prayer Warrior, Our Support system.
In so many ways you stood by us all. Always there. We could always count on you. A ready source for all things medical, food (you loved feeding us all), taking care of our new born babies and we, even as babies then. You called all the time to find out how we are doing? So many ways you showed you cared. So many ways you stood by and for us.
You would say 'How una de? How una de manage? Una don chop?'
We miss you so much and greatly. We love you forever.
May you rest in the sweet bosom of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, amen.

Aunty Joyce Woods. Words are not adequate to describe your loss. We were colleagues at IITA and we also share the same birthday (3rd Aug). We were very close as we discussed and shared thoughts on virtually all topics, experiences, and situations. I am still living in denial. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and let light perpetual shine upon her soul. Amen. We pray that JEHOVAH Almighty God will grant the immediate and extended family and friends worldwide, the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Aunty, till we meet to part no more. Adieu. It is well. Amen.

Mama Wood is an Explenary Kind hearted person who I knew through my Mum since 2 decades ago. She had proven beyond doubt a good and lovely person to people around her. She was at my wedding in the year 2000 and had became my Family. I was with my husband last year before COVID'19 to discuss some issues with her at her brother lodge at University of Ibadan. She's a good Grandma to the core.
Mama Joyce always Comments, likes and share my timeline.
She's a good humanitarian as my Mum always receive Ramadan gifts every year.
We are going to miss her.
May Almighty God grant the family fortitude to bear the loss.
She will forever be in our heart.
ADIEU Mama Wood
