“And…the greatest of these is Love” (1 Corinthians 13:13)

Our beloved Joyce passed on March 10th when the Lord called her home and gave her forever healing after an 18-month struggle through heart and kidney failure. She enjoyed 13 years of extended life without dialysis through the gift of a kidney transplant in 2005. In March, she was welcomed into heaven by her devoted husband of 34 years, Frank Foster, and into the arms of her parents; her brothers, Norman Leo Tyson and Earl Leslie Tyson; her sister Virginia Ruth (Tyson) Linder; and many other loved ones who preceded her in death. Surely, her beloved cats, Winky and Silky were also dancing around her feet. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Victoria Foster, her sister, Thelma (Ty) McNeal, and many nieces and nephews.

The daughter of the late Charles Earl Tyson and Esther (Henderson) Tyson, Joyce was raised in Norristown, PA. She moved north in the late 1960’s with Frank to start a family and spent over 30 years in Schuylkill County. In 2001, she escaped the cold and moved to Florida to be closer to her daughter, ultimately landing in Vero Beach, FL, in 2013.

First and foremost, Joyce was a woman of tremendous faith. Raised a Schwenkfelder, when she moved north, she found her home in small, traditional churches. A talented musician, Joyce played the piano and organ at the Immanuel Evangelical Christian Church for many years. It brought her great joy to share her God-given musical gifts, most especially when singing hymns in beautiful harmony with her husband Frank.

Joyce was also hopeful and helpful. She truly believed "…all things work together for good to them that love God…" (Romans 8:28, her favorite verse). Her amazingly quirky sense of humor, in face of nearly any situation, displayed that hope and brought laughter to all those around her. She made a career doing administrative work; her efficiency, attention to detail, and friendliness helped and supported many people.

Lastly, one of the greatest things about Joyce was her profound love for her family and friends. She was a loyal sister and aunt, and would help her family at a moment’s notice, whatever was needed. Married in 1965, she was blessed with a child after 10 years of trying to conceive. She then took on her most passionate work, that of being an amazing and devoted mother. Joyce took wonderful care of her family and stayed home to raise Victoria for 14 years, 4 of which she even taught her from home, and she was there for every event (concerts, plays, etc.) with full support, even into adulthood.

Joyce was a strong and wonderful woman who lived her faith for all to see. Those who knew Joyce were better for it and those close to her were blessed to be deeply loved by her.

A Memorial Service and Celebration of her Life is on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 2PM, at the Immanuel E.C. Church, East Pheasant Run Road, Drehersville, PA. Anyone who would like to join us is welcome and encouraged to share an anecdote about Joyce if they wish during her Memorial. A reception gathering is planned nearby after the Memorial, location TBD.
