Closer than ever

August 10, 2018

dearest Mom,

Since you’ve been gone I have come to understand so much more about who you really were - the person underneath the dates, the events, the roles you fulfilled and your persona.

I can relate to your joys of motherhood and the pain of misunderstandings in relationships, the longing for freedom from life’s cares and the fear of that same freedom.

We did not always understand each other in this lifetime, but I now feel you closely with me every day and cherish your memory.

Love,

Carrie

August 21, 2014

My good friend Nita and I had been friends for nearly 81 years. We met in the third grade and found we had the same bithday  From that day we celebrated so many birthdays together
.Celebrated our 90th last year at Canlis Resaurant. We arrived at Canlis in Jaguar towncar'  Thanks to Nita's family  It was an enjoyable day.

My foundest memories are the summers I spent on Vashon at their sumer home. Her Parents treated me like a daughter.

We went to the UofW together and pledge the same sorority  I stood up for her at her wedding and she in turn stood up for me at my wedding.  As our families got bigger we tried to keep in touch but always remember our birthdays.

I'm having a hard time realizing we wont be seeing each  other. I am home
bound these days so I am unable to attend my dear friend's fruneral

I will miss you so.  Sleep in peace

                                                           Love Marion

Barometers

August 18, 2014

The day after mom died, we dismantled the carefully organized contents of her apartment.  "Mom has two barometers" I said as I removed them from the wall, "Would either of you like to have one?"  Kevin said no, mom had given him one already, and Carrie said the same.  I actually have two barometers mom had given me.  Her main barometer was an accurate, adjustable, calibrated barometer, the other was just a back up.  She would tap the dial and see if the barometric pressure was rising or falling indicating fair weather if rising or perhaps a storm if falling. She would add this bit of information to her everpresent awareness of the direction of the wind and immediately understand whether we should all take cover in the basement or put on bathing suits and go to the beach.  She loved to study cloud formations in the sky and knew the scientific terms and what sort of weather conditions caused what sort of clouds. Mom cared so much about the weather and the wind because when she was a young adventurous woman she traveled around Puget Sound, first in a small boat with oars and a tiny motor, and later sailed single-handed in her beloved round-bottomed sailboat. Mom was a mariner at heart and always knew which way the wind was blowing.
