Juanita Mitchell Perry, affectionately known by her family and friends as “Nita”, was born to George Otis Mitchell and Willie Mae Reynolds Mitchell in Birmingham, Alabama on October 14, 1947. At two years of age, Juanita lost her birth mother and later welcomed her second mother, Arvella Meadows Mitchell.
Juanita attended Hattie C. Butler Elementary School and graduated from Carol W. Hayes High School in 1965. She attended college at Jefferson State Community College and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of St. Mark’s Baptist Church throughout her entire life.
Juanita believed in having an abundance from her table spread to her wardrobe. Some of her favorites include gardening, fashion, and cooking. She had a natural green thumb, and beauty was second nature to her. She found beauty in all things and in all people.
Juanita was dedicated to helping others in her personal life and professionally. Her desire to help others hugely contributed to the work she performed as an employee for the U.S. Social Security Administration for 31 years, retiring in 2011. Juanita loved people, and she loved life! As a result of her generous spirit and her passion to help others, she was loved by many. She lived each day of her life to the fullest, and her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her. She quietly departed this life on Monday, June 15, 2020, in the peacefulness of her home, where she raised her children and nurtured her grandchildren.
