Judy and I had the pleasure of being counselors and friends at Sabino High School, when she had moved to Tucson from Ilinois in the 70's. We remained close friends until her passing. I was fortunate to job share with her for almost 2 years at the end of her illustrious career in TUSD.
Judy was a true leader and devoted her life to benefit others. There was never a doubt that her priorities were family, students ,friends and colleagues. She lived the role of counselor in every aspect of her life. Her dedication to providing a legacy for other counselors to follow is in the curriculum she developed and the life she lived. I will always miss her and never forget her many attributes.

Judy would be so surprised to find me in a Secondary Teaching Position, as she understood my passion for supporting all the students on campus with weekly social/emotional learning. I wish she could share her tips and tricks for working with this age group, as they are so different from my 'littles' even though I recognize they are dealing with same issues, just in bigger, hormonal bodies. I am sure she gets a chuckle up in heaven when I am lost for words at least once a day.
Thank you, Judy, for your enduring support and positive influence in my life. I miss you dearly

In the many months since Judy's death, I have marveled at her enduring influence in the field of School Counseling! Her passion and dedication for supporting students' through wrap around services is ever present in schools across America, and beyond. As my mentor, she championed my efforts to improve counseling services, and always supported my professionally and personally. I respected her, loved her, and am still processing life without her shining light.

Hard to believe that it has been two years since Judy died. I still reach for the phone to ask her a question, only to feel the raw spot her death has left in my spirit.

Yet, I recently started mentoring a first-year Elementary School Counselor, and I think Judy must be smiling down on us, as the baton has been passed to me.

So many colleagues and I have been sharing memories as we passed the anniversary of her death in the past month. We are leaving her name on the AzSCA Research Committee to keep her memory alive with our group. She will always be loved and never forgotten.

We were at an AZSCA board meeting last weekend and we’re asked to update our rosters. Judy and I co-chaired the research committee for several years. Dr. DeVoss, my new co-chair, and I agreed to leave Judy on our roster as she was the heart and soul of the committee and will forever be our guiding light! We miss you Judy!

I first met Judy in February, 1996 at an ERIC/CASS Training Workshop in Greensboro, NC. We would meet often after that at ASCA Conferences and I always made sure that I attended one of the sessions that she facilitated because I was sure to learn a lot from her. She was always so encouraging and supportive of me and of the school counseling program at Wesley College, Belize, which I was privileged to lead for 24 years. Over the years, other school counselors from Belize also had the opportunity to meet Judy. Judy was a giving person and she was always willing to share from her wealth of expertise. What we shared with school counselors in Belize about comprehensive school counseling programs, especially in the early years, is credited in a huge way to Judy. She was very happy when the Belize School Counselor Association became a reality in 2012 because she knew of the journey to get the association going. This tribute comes from school counselors in Belize whose lives were impacted by Judy: Elizabeth Goff, Licia Castillo, Carolyn Wesby, Lucia Ellis, Delcia Chan and Denise Lopez. We are all so thankful to have met her and remember her kind and caring spirit.

There are those who touch lives and then there are those who inspire others by their example. Judy did both. She brought elementary school counseling to the national level and contributed greatly to the field touching and inspiring those around her. Her love for kids and for their betterment was extraordinary. She had a beautiful heart and led with passion without seeking credit. I will miss our heart to heart talks and hearing about her beautiful grandchildren!

I love you my friend and that is forever! You will always be amazing to me. Until we meet again...God Speed!

Ms. Bowers was my Sabino High School counselor and friend. I graduated in 1984 as valedictorian, left for college, and later became a medical doctor.  She helped me believe in myself and achieve my goals. I am forever grateful and will always remember her selfless attitude and big smile! After I left Sabino, I came back to see her several times.  I just learned that that she passed away this week, yet just last month I was again thinking of her and reminiscing about all the wonderful things she did for me and others. Thank you, Judy, for being a wonderful teacher. Thank you, Bowers family, for sharing your beloved Judy with the world. She has left a legacy.

The school counseling profession will always be indebted to Judy Bowers! She was an important voice during ASCA's transition years to help make it the incredible organization it is today!!! She was a great role model for me and her influence will continue to impact my counseling practices. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this time!

It was so very hard to read about the passing of my friend and colleague Judy Bowers. The love, passion, commitment and dedication she felt for the school counseling profession was only surpassed by the love she felt for her family and grandchildren. I was so very blessed to have the opportunity to partner with Judy as co-authors of the ASCA National Model. I have many fond memories of our collaboration on this and other projects at ASCA conferences, AzSCA events. trips to her home in Tucson, and during our joint time working together on the ASCA board. She was incredibly dedicated. I fondly recall one LDI when we locked ourselves in a room and worked day and night reviewing state models. I'm so very sad to read of her passing after so bravely fighting cancer for many years. The profession is forever changed because of the leadership Judy modeled, the seminal work she contributed and the selflessness she consistently demonstrated. God bless you Judy Bowers.

I will remember Judy always for her kindness to me & everyone; her strong advocacy for what's best for students & her tenacious ability to pursue placing school counselors in all the schools. Whether writing a grant, giving a speech or gently, yet powerfully making a case to administrators, she was a champion for school counselors. Judy touched the lives of countless people. She fought her personal battles courageously sustained by the love from her friends, family & adorable grandchildren. Her memory will live in my heart.

I met Judy in 1993, and she mentored me through so many stages of my career as a Professional School Counselor. She guided me through personal and professional ups and downs, encouraged me to pursue my doctorate in educational leadership, and to be a risk taker. She was there for me when my husband was severely injured in 1996, and when he died in 2009. She attended my wedding in 2012, my daughter's wedding in 2013, and other special occasions. She graciously gifted me with some of her valued counseling resources, but most importantly, she gifted me with her positive presence and influence in my life.

Judy Bowers was the glue that held our class of '87 together. I knew of her health struggles over the years and always appreciated her speedy replies to my surprise emails. Since she was truly in the people business, I felt it important to keep her updated on the many lives she positively impacted. Judy will always be a special lady to so many and her family should feel comforted that people living around the world are thinking of them now during this difficult time. We will certainly raise our glasses in her honor and fond memory during the upcoming 30th class reunion.

Judy Bowers has had an immeasurable influence on school counseling first in Arizona and then on the National level though her co-authorship of the ASCA National Model and then as national leader and trainer of school counselors. Judy’s was a patient, kind and loving person with a wonderful sense of humor. I learned a lot from Judy! It was a privilege to call her a friend and colleague.

My deepest condolences to Lisa, Brian, Bob, and the grandchildren. Judy was an extraordinary person and had an everlasting influence on me. I will forever be changed by Judy. We knew each other through ASCA and served on the board for several years. Judy encouraged me to excel, and she set the bar high from the beginning. Her experiences and resources were shared with others. I was privileged to be a part of the development of the model. Judy helped to lead this collaboration of creating a vision, gathering resources, and developing the framework to unify the profession. The significance of the model was tremendous... We were articulating higher standards, accountability, collaboration, leadership, advocacy, and defining what school counselors do best.
Judy was also my "permanent roommate," a designation that meant we spent many hours saying, "Okay, we need to go to sleep and quit talking." Judy and I shared many joys and difficulties of life as "sisters." We were bonded by our love of counseling and found lifelong friendship in each other. i will miss her terribly. Judy, however, left a legacy and changed the world in a way all of us strive to do.

Thank you Judy, for your friendship, guidance and support. You were my mentor and model of Professional School Counseling. Thank you for sharing your time, expertise and many resources with me. Judy Bowers was the chair of the Guidance & Counseling Department at Sabino High School during my tenure as Principal. Judy was always motivated to improve our guidance and counseling services. I encouraged Judy to become involved at the state and national level in guidance and counseling; she quickly became a leader in Arizona’s development of a written guidance and counseling curriculum that became a national model. Thank you Judy for being a great role model for my daughter and everyone else you interacted with.  I suspect God has already found a way to use your talent in Heaven. We Sabercats will miss you, but always remember your love and compassion for us.

Judy was one of the top 5 influencers of my life! I met her in 1998 when I accepted the position of Coordinator of the Northern Arizona University School Counseling Program in Tucson. She immediately introduced me to local and national leaders in the field and challenged me to become a leader and advocate for school counselors and K-12 students. She was a great colleague and a valued friend. I will miss our work and play together.

There are so many wonderful things to say on behalf of Judy. She has been an inspiration since I first met her in my Master's of School Counseling program at U of A in 2000. Judy has pushed me to be a better counselor, leader, and over all person. She had such a passion for the school counseling profession and I am Blessed to have been part of her life. We were co-chairs for the AzSCA research committee the past couple of years and I have learned so much from her tutelage. As she was unable to go to Guam in summer of 2016 to train on the new edition of the ASCA National Model she suggested I attend and I did. What an experience! She pushed people out of their comfort zone to do amazing things.. things I would not have tried without her everlasting encouragement and assistance. Now its our turn to continue her work and encourage others to do the unexpected, to enhance their knowledge to share the love of the school counseling profession.
