Her Life

Life and Times of Mrs. Juliana Olufunmilayo David

April 8, 2016

Mama Juliana Olufunmilayo David (aka Mama J and Maami) was born in Kano city, Nigeria on April 6 1926 and passed on to glory in USA on May 3, 2015 after a challenging health condition.

Mama had her education in Northern Nigeria where she trained as a nurse. Through dint of hard work, Mama occupied increasingly responsible positions in the public health system and ended her career with retirement as a hospital matron. In her younger days, she met the love of her life in the late Papa Moses Olashore David. Mama was blessed with male and female children who are scattered over four continents – Africa, Europe, USA and South America. Mama J, as we the children lovingly called her, was a consummate mother and homemaker. Being widowed early in life, life (at the age of 34), she worked hard to train her children for them to become who they all are today by the grace of God. The overwhelming strength of her love for all made her a mother and grandmother to many who thrived and grew to their full potential due to her loving and caring spirit.

Our Mom had an unwavering faith in God. She was a strong member of the Anglican Holy Trinity church in Sabongeri, Kano Nigeria.  Over the years, she had become very involved with the church and assisted with numerous events. She also loved music and was a member of the choir. She passed her musical talents on to her children.

Mama Over the years, literally begat children all over the globe (Nigeria, Liberia, Israel, UK, Italy, Trinidad and Tobago) - places she had visited/lived for varying lengths of time before making USA her final residence in 2003 until at 6.45 am of May 3, 2015 when she answered the call of her Lord to migrate to the great beyond.

Introduction to the Memorial website of Mrs. Juliana Olufunmilayo David

April 8, 2016

Dear all,

This website has been created in loving memory of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Mrs. Juliana Olufunmilayo David (a.k.a Maami, Mama J). We will always remember the indelible impact she has made on our lives and her blessed memories will ever linger on. We are mindful that Mama Juliana has imparted many lives beyond her geographical and biological boundaries, so we ask that you please post your tributes and as many pictures, videos and stories related to her, as possible.

Mama was an amiable person who will get along with even the most difficult person you could think of. Thanks to her patience, long suffering and disarming smile – her regular slogan is “e mu suru, e ma ja” meaning be “patient, don’t quarrel”. Mama J selflessness saw her making rounds in the rooms of the nursing home where she was confined for the last month of her life - trying to comfort other patients who happened to be in pain.

As we celebrate the first home going anniversary of this extra-ordinary woman of God and a unique mother/grandmother/great grandmother, you are encouraged to share your thoughts about Mama so as to keep her memory alive for years to come. Please feel free to share this evolving link with people who know and love our angel.

God Bless You,

The Davids
