Mama....
So soft-spoken.
So thoughtful.
And oh....so loving.
It's so so sad that just when the children and I were preparing and looking forward to meeting you for the very first time, God, in his wisdom decided it was time you came back home.

To live on in the hearts of those you love is not death, you are resting Mama.

Even though I never got to meet Mama in person but whenever we spoke on phone, she was always very warm and oh prayerful! She would ask after everyone including my Mother. Mama would always send something across to us whenever she had the opportunity.

We will miss you Ma.

From all i could see from a distance, you lived for God, you lived a beautiful life of peace and you fought a good fight.
My only regret is i NEVER got to meet you!

Rest now.

Until we meet again, good night Mama!

Yours

Hmmm! Granny like we used to call you. I gained another grandmother the day I set my eyes on you. You did not separate me from your grandchildren, you indulged us with goodies from your shop and still frowned at our naughty behaviours and guided us on the right path. Oh, I miss you granny, especially the way you used to call me (Alaba). Indeed, heaven has gained another angel. Continue to rest in the blossom of our Lord Jesus Christ.

My dear granny, you were so kind to me and always prayed for me. I will remember your beautiful smile and your warm nature. I have fond memories as a child visiting Agbor - you were always happy to see us and would welcome us with open arms. I also remember the delicious foods you cooked! I feel honoured and blessed to have had you in my life. The time spent with you are memories I will treasure forever. You will be sorely missed but never forgotten. You have gone to be with the Lord now. Rest in perfect peace, granny.

Granni granni, it was a pleasure to know you and in all these years as your ground daughter´s husband. You are one of the kindest and sweetest groundmother to have. Your prayers will be missed but we know you are in the presence of our Lord to advocate for us through our Saviours Jesus Christ. You are one of a kind and we know Heaven rejoiced when you joined them. We will savour the memories we have of you and try to emulate the examples you left behind. Sleep on till we meet again. Adios grandma.

Granny! As you are fondly called by your grand children.
You are indeed a virtuous woman of great value. From the first time i knew you, you never quareled with anyone. You are always smiling and praying. It's only blessings that hear come out of your mouth. You have lived a worthy life and deserve the rest with your creator and saviour whom you loved so dearly. Continue to rest peacefully.

I’ve waited this long because I couldn’t quite find the right words. It’s amazing how you found peace with everything. I’m not sure I ever knew you angry. Even when you were unhappy about anything, you expressed that upset quietly; that quiet strength and resilience encouraged and gave me hope. Your ability to keep pushing through all circumstances was inspiring.
I can only conclude that it was time for you to go cause if it wasn’t, you would have kept fighting. So I say, rest well, rest easy, you’ve fought a good fight Granny!!

Yours truly, Your Nne!

I have known Mama for over twenty years and I met her for the first time in 1988 when she lived with her her eldest daughter, Auntie Pat who was my neighbor at the time. As a lot of people who have had the pleasure of meeting Mama will boldly testify to, Mama as we called her, embodied grace, humility, wisdom and kindness. She richly displayed these characteristics in our relationship with her. A clear part of my memorable relationship with Mama was the way we “fought” over who will be the first person to get water from the shallow well we had in the compound, which was sadly our only source of water. Since the well only generated water in the early hours of the morning, I used to go to bed early to enable me wake up say around 5am to scrape water from the well. As much as I tried to be the first person to get there, Mama always got there before me. I am not sure how she did it but she had a reputation of literally cleaning out the well before I got there. At a point, I asked her if she ever slept and she just smiled in return.

It is sad to see her go but we take solace in the fact that our Good Lord has taken her to a better place. May our Good Lord shine HIS abundant comfort on Mama’s children and other members of her family who I have had the pleasure of knowing and may her soul rest in perfect peace.

The love of a grandma is unique. God must have given grandmothers to us to liven up our lives, to make our lives more complete, to make us well rounded and better human beings. Thank you for your sacrifices, your care and concern, your love and everything that you have done.
You may have passed on, but your memories would always live on within us...we will never forget you and we will always love you forever.

Granny, as we fondly called you - you were a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and according to your great granddaughter Emmanuella you were the ‘13th disciple of Christ’. My husband fondly called you ‘his girlfriend’ that’s how much love we all had for you. Oh granny! I promised I would come visit you in Nigeria this year but heaven had a better plan for you. You prayed for each one of your children and grandchildren everyday, a lover of Christ, you read your Bible every day. My friends also called you granny because you truly were grandma to everyone that knew you, impressively you remembered all of my friends by name and you loved them like your own. Never mad at anyone, never picked a fight, never held a grudge- you were a true example of a Godly woman, a virtuous woman of God. Even when we got mouthy and rude, your tender love and affection remained. I loved that you only took my medical advice, I was your nurse and doctor in one and you trusted my judgement at all times. Ahh! I miss you so much- I can’t believe you are gone but one thing I am sure of, you are resting at the bossom of Christ till we meet again. No more pain and no more suffering, sleep well, I love you. Your granddaughter Kemi Adegboyega.

                     ❤
When I was younger around 12, I once came back from school feeling really down. I entered my house and even before i had a chance to greet this beautiful woman; my grandma, she hugged me so tight until I smiled. Now I don't don't if she read how my day went but I know one thing for sure, that is a memory i won't forget.

Christopher Holloway once said 'The life of one we love is never lost. Its influence goes on through all the lives it ever touched.' I can say for certain that my grandma has had a hand in the lives of so many people because I am one of those people.
“A grandmother is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend.”
She taught us alot of things, advised us on many more and prayed for us in everything. I learnt a lot from her, except how to live without her. Granyyy you may be gone for now  but I have hope we will meet again, in a world where darkness and pain is no more. You have closed your eyes to rest and I pray for your peace. You will always be remembered no matter what. I will always remember your name no matter what. Your presence, love and kindness will forever be with us. Rest for now until we meet again in Heaven Grandma!!

Glory be to God for a life well spent.

She was the only mother that I grew up to know. Our mother died when we were very young. She married our daddy with five of us.

She had been a very caring mother to all of us. People used to say that step mothers are terrors, her case was different. She had eight children of her own plus five that she met. She kept all of us united. You can’t know who is who unless you are very very close to our family. She was a very hard working mother. She worked so hard to put food on the table for the family, never tired, never complained. What helped her was her prayer life and patience. She prayed for all the children and grandchildren. Honestly speaking, I have never seen her get angry with any of us.

Her life was worth emulating. My late dad and her were farmers at Onipe where we grew up. She never allowed me to go to the farm because of my deformity. When I love going with them to the farm, she will say “stay behind, you can’t trek it”. What a loving mother. She will say “the farm is very far”. We are a happy family.

Even in her old age she kept the hard work, when we all gather in London, she would be the one to cook for us with happiness and ask us to come and dish our food.

We will miss her sweet soup, smiles and stories of our village Iru.

Continue to rejoice in the bossom of Jesus.

Wow! So finally my sweet mother takes a bow. The woman I first fell in love with. So pure in love, so genuine in intentions. Very strong in the inside. Very tolerant and peaceful, very accommodating. A true woman of God, prayer warrior, Bible reading addict. I can go on and on.
On that faithful Friday afternoon haven dropped you off at home from the hospital, I had a premonition that something is about to happen but I refused to give it a serious thought until I got a call just about an hour later that you were gone. Hmmmm I'm grateful to God that I saw, spoke and bonded with you in your last few days.
Can't but be grateful to God for sustaining you alive for almost 47 years after the demise of our father. Thank you for not abandoning us for the convenience of another marriage, but decided to stay with us and now God graciously kept us all alive and well with several grandchildren and great grand children.
We shall greatly miss you but we are comforted that you're now enjoying a perfect, painless and joyful life in the presence of our dear Lord and saviour Jesus Christ whom you love with all your heart.
Good night my sweet mama

You have blessed and impacted my life and thus I am extremely blessed and thankful to have you as a grand mother. Thanks for your sacrifice, your love, your care and everything that you have done for me.
Though you are gone but your memory will live long in my heart and one day we shall surely meet again.
Rest in the bosom of the Lord. Your Beloved Grandson,

Wow! Mama has flown.

The Egyptians say of their pharaoh 'the falcon has flown'.
Mama has indeed flown.

She believes 'age' is a number and 'old' a mindset.

The last time I was with her on the 6th of February in Ibadan, she was youthfully demanding for rice rather than the pounded yam offered her.

She 'is' forever praying for me and family in all languages, English o, Yoruba o, Ika/Iru.

*May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace*

Grannie, Grannie,

Heaven must be delighted to receive one of their daughters home. My dearest grandmother, sweet as ever and full of life. My prayer warrior grandmother never took a break from prayer. Your greetings were prayers, your conversations were filled with prayers even your goodbyes were prayers. I can still hear the relaxed way you laughed. My beloved grandma who made sure she caught up with her grandchildren in slangs, games/activities and even Nigerian films! I remember when I was younger, I would always get the special 1st grandchild treatment served with freshly cooked corn, my special vegetable stew with nice boiled yam. It was a real feast for me. we played ayo and ludo. I had already informed my cousin to get you one now that you were back in Nigeria. How sad you are gone and you did not get to show him how good you are in the game. I had bragged about your skills.
I also remember how you prayed for me when I told you about a colleague who was horrible to me at work. It was so funny the way you prayed protectively for me. Grannie, we will surely miss you.
Grannie grannie - you will be missed but we celebrate life and the lessons you taught us.

Hmmm still like a dream to me! 'Mama' as I always called you, little did I know that 14th March when I called to wish you happy mothers' day would be my last conversation with you for thereafter you could not even speak again!
I miss hearing that response whenever you answered your phone ("nhun, na ni unu ri, ndi ibe a nu?" ) meaning how are you all? How's everyone in the house? Your conversation was 80% prayers especially that one liner (ori ihun eme, unu hu azun, ori azun eme unu hu ihun) I.e. when there is evil in front you will be behind and when it's happening at the back you would already be in front. I could go on and on. Each child would be specifically mentioned to ask how they were.
You had the most gentle spirit, long suffering forgiving heart and a generous giver! A great student of the Bible even though with no formal education. Even as a child I could recall how enterprising and hardworking you were.  Above all I rejoice that you were a true child of God and is now with JESUS.
I bless GOD for your life and all that He brought you through. Your memory is forever blessed. You have left a good legacy, you ran your race well and the Lord has recalled you into eternal rest. Good night mama until resurrection morning. I love you forever and miss you. Nnem oma, jen nke oma!
