June T. Purk, 89, of Urbana, died on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 in her residence.
She was born on June 14, 1926 in Englewood, OH, a daughter of Harold and Marabelle (Geuy) Thompson Sr. She graduated high school in St. Paris, OH and received her nursing diploma from Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. She served as a nurse in the Army Corp.
June worked as an RN as a campus nurse at Ohio Northern, Piqua Hospital and then Urbana College. She worked as a hospice nurse, then a nurse at Champaign Nursing Home, where she later became the admissions director. June went on to be the parish nurse at Urbana United Methodist Church.
June was a long-time member of Urbana United Methodist Church but transferred her membership back to her home church of St. Paris UMC.
She loved being a wife, mother and nurse. June welcomed everyone into her family, making them each feel welcome and loved, no matter who they were. Although she had many children, she had the ability to make each one of them feel like an only child.
Survivors include her children, Elizabeth (Stone) Tweten, Claudia (Frank) Elzay, Jonathan (Ann) Purk, Timothy (Betsy) Purk, Christopher (Melissa) Purk, Melissa (Bonner) Smith and Jill (Mitch) Hurst; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Jayne Craig; and brother, Darrell Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nelson Lee Purk in 1998; a brother, Harold “Buddy” Thompson Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth (Kuhn) Purk, 3 grandchildren Emma(Tim’s daughter), Joshua and Micah(Jill’s son and daughter); and a great grandson Cameron(Jon’s grandson).
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 4, 2016 in St. Paris United Methodist Church, 208 W. Walnut St., St. Paris, with Pastor David E. Kepple officiating.
The family wishes to thank the team from Hospice of Miami Valley, especially Marcy and Katie, for their excellent care of June.
