On the morning of March 7, 2024, Kalla A. Byrd finished her earthly race and was brought into the glorious presence of her Lord and Savior. She was 72 and had been residing in Medford Lakes for the last 35 years.

Kalla Ann Byrd (née Knight) was born on December 6, 1951 in Dewitt, Arkansas to Edwin and Doris Knight. She grew up in Stuttgart, Arkansas and moved to New Jersey in 1969 where she met her husband Isaac Byrd. They were wed on July 10, 1976 and were married until his death on February 1, 2002. With her husband she raised three sons in New Jersey, all of whom know and love the Lord. She graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1974 and taught Math in various school districts over the course of 32 years and retired from the Lenape School District (NJ) in 2008. During the later years of her teaching career, and then throughout her retirement she spent one or two months each year as a volunteer with missionaries overseas teaching EFL and sharing the Gospel in several different Asian countries. Most recently she volunteered with mission work in Uganda, Africa. She was active in the church throughout her life. She was a founding member of Immanuel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Medford, NJ, where she worshiped and served the Lord for the last 19 years.

At a young age she experienced the power of the Gospel of Jesus and the forgiveness offered in it. She lived in daily relationship with Him for the rest of her earthly life.  It was her trust in the Lord and daily walk with Him that sustained her through many challenging times.  It was her love for the Lord that overflowed into a life of service. She lived sacrificially as a wife, a mother, a teacher, a mentor, and a friend always giving of her time, energy, her home, and resources to love and serve others, impacting many who were touched by her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaac D. Byrd III, and is survived by her mother, Doris Knight, brother Charles Edwin Knight, sister Pam Elliff; her sons Christopher Byrd, Matthew Byrd (Charity), and Joel Byrd (Jennifer); as well as her grandchildren Zoe, Ella, Leo, and Pearl (Joel & Jennifer), Elijah, Jairus, Ezra, and Esther (Matthew & Charity).

The Memorial Service will be held for Kalla on Saturday, March 16 at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Alliance Chapel - 199 Church Rd., Medford NJ 08055.  A graveside service will take place at 10 AM at the Old Tennent Cemetery - 454 Tennent Rd., Manalapan NJ 07763.

Because missions was one of the passions of her life, in lieu of flowers, you can send a donation in her memory to Africa Christian Training Institute, the missions organization that she served with for the last several years. Donations (tax deductible) can be made out to ACTI and addressed to: ACTI - Missions, P.O. Box 15621, Panama City FL 32406-5621.

Kalla was a beautiful woman inside and out. It was a privilege to know her, back in our Liberty Tabernacle days. I looked up to her and her gentle ways.
