Her Life

Karen Henderson Williams October 31, 1955 – August 19, 2016

August 30, 2016

Karen was born in Greensboro, NC, to Robert B. and Patsy Henderson. She was raised with her brothers Jerry, Joe, and Jeff in Thomasville, NC. Karen graduated from Thomasville High School. During high school she was actively involved as a majorette, a member of the band, and played on the women’s basketball team. She was also an active member of Unity United Methodist Church.

After high school, Karen received her Associate Degree in Nursing from DCCC. She later completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from UNCG. Karen started her nursing career at High Point Medical Hospital, and later worked both at Wake Forest University and East Carolina University. She had a diverse nursing career, working in Emergency Departments, ICUs, Medical/Surgical and plasma apheresis units helping others and touching many lives. She later transitioned to occupational health, student health, and home health care.

Karen married Dale Williams on August 5, 1978, at Unity UMC. They were blessed with the birth of their son Bryan in 1980, and daughters Wendy and Megan in 1983 and 1989. In 2013, granddaughter Linley was born followed by the birth of grandson Lane in 2015.

Karen loved her family and made them first priority in life. She was involved in a number of community and school organizations with her children, devoting many hours of service to Southwest Guilford, Ledford, and Westchester Academy.

Karen served in many capacities at Covenant UMC, participating in fundraisers, small groups, and teaching Sunday school. Karen loved volunteering in a variety of ways; however, serving on the Board of GO FAR, an organization which teaches elementary-age children the importance of nutrition and exercise, was close to her heart. Karen participated in numerous international medical mission trips, as well as local trips which ministered to the health of underserved children.

Karen enjoyed tennis and played competitively with different clubs in the High Point area.

She will always be remembered as a loving wife and mother by her family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at First Wesleyan Church, 1701 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262 on September 10th at 3PM.  A reception for friends and family will follow from 4:30 until 6:30 PM at First Wesleyan Church Room 106.
