Katherine considered her greatest accomplishment and most cherished legacy to be her children.  As they grew, she encouraged her children to achieve a higher level of education than she had, so they would have more opportunities in life; mission accomplished.  A self-described “space cadet”, Katherine was a strong supporter of the US space program and a member of the Apollo 1 Memorial Foundation from its beginnings.

Katherine was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Edwin Coyne and stepmother, Eleanor Coyne. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, James and John Cooper; daughters, Anne Cooper and Mary Field; brothers, Charles and Robert Coyne; grandchildren, Patrick Cooper, William Cooper, Katelyn Cooper, and Sherrill Huelsman; and great-grandchildren Lochlin, Rowan and Caden Cooper.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Katherine's name to the American Liver Foundation or Suncoast Hospice are welcome and appreciated.

Katherine has been laid to rest with her parents at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery, 2894 Patterson Ave SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49512.

Hello family,

Wish we had spent more time together Aunt Katie and her kids. We social distanced before it was a thing, living on opposite sides of the country. I always loved hearing stories my dad would tell about you guys growing up in Michigan, and I loved looking thru all the pictures on this site.
God Bless you all.

Kate, I spent a good deal of time in your home as a young adult. I remember I used to enjoy listening to you talk, sounds funny but I really loved the Michigan accent. You were quick to laugh and had a great smile that was just contagious. You were a strong and independent woman who was a great role model for her kids and any other kids that were around you myself included. You always welcomed me and you gave me a place to stay when I needed one, I will be forever grateful for that kindness. I was lucky to have you as a "second Mom". Love you. May you be at peace and with family.

Auntie Kate, You were always such an inspiration to me. The few precious times we spent together left me with the impression that you were "larger than life". I am sad we lived on opposite sides of the nation and did not get to share more of our lives together. I will always remember our times together.

Words come hard when you learn that someone dear to you has passed. Harder still when you realized that you haven't been in touch for so many years. No one could have asked for a better guardian angel. Thank you for saving me so many times especially HS Prom '63. Miss you jo jo.

Love you Kate! Sorry we have had a long distance relationship with you in Florida and me in Arizona. I greatly enjoyed our time together when I visited a couple of years ago lots of laughter and Irish fun.

I'm proud of the great job you did raising your children.
Your loving brother Bob.

I spent so much time at your house growing up. You always made me feel welcomed and loved. I will miss your smile and your laughter. One of my favorite memories is one year after Christmas, you said we were putting the tree away. I was looking for boxes. You picked up the sheet tree skirt and wrapped it around the tree ornaments and all. Drug the whole thing up to the attic.

Kate, I have been trying to come up with the words to convey what a wonderful, life-long friend you were to me. I was just a young (18) bride starting out at my first job in Grand Rapids, Mi. when you took me under your wing and showed hospitality and true friendship. Throughout our lives with our young babies to care for, you were always there! I love you....may you rest in peace!

Mom always told me I could be anything I wanted to be, I could do anything I wanted to do. She was right.  She encouraged me to educate myself so I could make that happen and I did. I have a wonderful life and I thank her for helping me to make that happen. God bless you, Mom. I will hold you in my heart.

I will always remember and never forget, one day, for apparently no reason at all, mom danced a little jig. It was spontaneous. It was fun! Thinking of that always makes me smile.
