Dear Mom: Happy Heavenly Birthday (yesterday) ... I hope you are dancing with dad up there and Lucy, Marilyn and everyone else!
I cannot begin to tell you how much you're missed. The world isn't the same without you (to put it mildly).
I love you so very much and know that each morning I wake up is one day closer to me being with you once again, in heaven.
Much love forever ~ I'll be seeing you!

To my Aunt Kathy, your spirit was always a light; full of life, laughter, and love. More importantly, you made-, and gave space to all. While I will never be the ray of sunshine that you were, I promise to treasure always those who are, in remembrance and honor of you.

You will be missed.

Much love,
Your niece, Melissa

Kathy and I taught a class called Life Decisions. The main focus of the class was on Drug Education and Sex Education. Talk about a lifetime of material for a gal as sharp and witty as Kathy. She was my mentor and taught me how to reach kids and how to communicate with parents about the material offered in our classes. She and I laughed a lot. Can you imagine. She was such a joy to the kids, parents, and staff at Potter Jr. High School.

I met Kathy about 20 years ago when she transferred to Live Oak Elementary. She was the most amazing teacher colleague and the "life of the party" at lunch in the lounge. My daughter had her as a 6th grade teacher in 2008 when she was first diagnosed with cancer. I got the daily report on Mrs. Miller's quips and antics, including ditching her wig on a hot day. Once when I took a hot meal around to her, she opened the door, pointed to her just growing out hair and proclaimed "I'm so punk rock". Kathy could take any situation and make a comedy routine out of it. She was a motivating role model for how to accept a bad situation and keep moving on, finding the humor along the way. She will always be an inspiration to me.

Kathy was the first person I met in the neighborhood in 2002 when I moved to Fallbrook. We became good friends spending time and sharing many conversations about our kids and grandchildren. Yes, many conversations about our wonderful grand kids. Then there were those fun bunco nights and those nights just sitting on the porch watching our dogs play in the yard. She had a sharp sense of humor that set us off in fits of laughter. The three of us, Kathy, Patty, and I really enjoyed planning theater nights to see the local plays. We also had our wild times with so many laughs as she sped around the neighborhood with me in tow on her golf cart. Only her sweet sister Patty knows of our other secret adventures. I never heard Kathy complain about her health, although I knew of her condition. We still had plans to get together. I didn’t expect this. I will miss her.  I miss her terribly.  My heart goes out to her family.

Kathy, a wonderful caring person and teacher that I was so fortunate to have worked with at Potter. She taught her students and colleagues to work hard, to do your best, but enjoy the journey. Many of her students, after leaving Potter, would return to visit with her because she was such a positive influence in their lives. When Kathy spoke of her family, she would reveal her smile while keeping us updated on the family activities. Good friend and great memories, she will be missed.

I have known Kathy for over 33 years. She lived down the street from us and was one of the first people to welcome us to Fallbrook. We went to the same church, were in the same PEO group and stayed close all these years. When she got sick, I reached out to my son David who does lung cancer research at UCLA. He contacted his friend who is an oncologist and is doing clinical trials with Kathy's type of cancer. She passed before she could do the trial. I prayed for her daily for the past several years and always admired her up beat, positive attitude.. She was a very special friend to me and joined me in GriefShare when Wayne died. I have so many wonderful memories of her and miss her so much. God bless you dear friend.

Kathy’s dry wit, deep love for life, friends, and family was steadfast. She loved to be asked about her grandkids instead of “How are you today?” She always thought of others and how she could make them chuckle. The last story, she retold me was about Emmy, Kathy’s youngest granddaughter. She was five and lost her first tooth. Lennon, her big sis told her the tooth fairy was going to come and put money under her pillow and take her tooth. Emmy got hysterical. No one knew why? Finally, mom decided the tooth would go into Papa’s desk. Next time, she lost a tooth Lennon told her you have to put the tooth under your pillow. “No, put it under my pillow!! I don’t want a fairy flying around in my room!!!” Then you won’t get any money. “Money I don’t want money I want a New Barbie doll.” (Kathy and I both laughed so hard we were crying) I will forever remember this story and hear Kathy laughing. She will be missed by many!

Kathy was one of the most positive persons I’ve ever known. She always had a smile on her face, a glint in her eyes, and was able to find the humor in every situation. Kathy left an indelible mark on the Fallbrook community. She loved her family with all her heart and she will be truly missed by all her loved her.

I can best describe Kathy in her own words: she was a kick in the pants. I am grateful to have had her as a colleague, friend, and example of how to bring joy to everyone. So many precious memories and a beautiful family she and Wayne created.

I remember Kathy as a vibrant inspiration to me as I started my teaching career. She was the resident cheerleader for staff and students at Potter Jr. High. Always on the lookout for ways to make the job more entertaining, she was the one always encouraging staff members to participate in the talent show. When a new principal was hired, Kathy was the one motivating staff to put together a welcoming skit.
Her easy laughter and mischievous smile were always on display to brighten the day. My deepest condolences to her loving family.

When I think "Kathy Miller," I think of laughing, deep, tears to your eyes, laughter. Then I think of Bill B's beloved Harley...

Brandon, Anna, Jennifer, James, and her beloved grands: my heart is with you. The world is a better place because of what Kathy taught, what she did, and whom she loved. Gentle hugs to you all.

I had the pleasure of working with Kathy at Live Oak and Potter. Her smile and hearty laugh are what I think of first about Kathy. She had such a great sense of humor. I also remember her hosting some staff parties at her house and how welcoming she was. Kathy was the best. She was so down-to-earth and easy to be around. She also spoke so proudly about her kids. She loved her family, that’s for sure. She will be missed!

Kathy was a beloved friend, neighbor and client. She was one of the most positive, kindest persons I have ever come across. During her struggle with cancer she remained hopeful and strong in her faith. She will be sorely missed. The world was a better place with her in it. My heart goes out to her family who I know are grateful that they were a part of hers and will remember her always as a bright light to all she touched. Cecelia

Kathy was one of the funniest and most dedicated educators I knew. I will always remember our Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton impersonation of “Islands in The Stream” at Potter’s talent show (she played Kenny; I was Dolly).
She will be missed. Our sincerest condolences to Jennifer, Brandon, & family.

We are praying for all of you as you mourn this special lady's passing into the arms of Jesus. Kathy was always a bright light in our lives. We will miss her too. As a colleague of hers I truly appreciated her wit and professionalism. She was always available to help when needed. That glint in her eyes said tons of 'silent' things. She made me laugh.....
My children loved being in her class at Potter Junior High School. She was fun but very serious about teaching her students to accomplish their assignments.
God bless you with peace and wonderful memories.
Ruth Watto sends her sympathies to the Millers Family. Ruth is a patient of Dr. Brandon.

Her Life

Her Life Story

February 20, 2022
Kathy Miller, was born to Chester William Lauesen and Leone Isabelle Mowbray on May 29, 1947 in Aurora, Illinois.  She was the youngest of 5 girls - Gretchen, Brenda, Patricia, Susan and Kathy.  At an early age, Kathy learned that comedy and laughter was the best way to deal with life's challenges and stressors.  Her family moved to Montebello, California in 1948.  She graduated from Montebello High School in 1965.  After High School, Kathy pursued an English degree from Long Beach State University and later completed a Master's Degree in Administration at National University.

While in College, Kathy met the love of her life and married Wayne Miller who had three beautiful girls Lisa, Katie and Carrie.  A few years later, Kathy gave birth to their son Brandon.  A year after that, their youngest daughter Jennifer was born.  Kathy raised all their children in a fun and loving home.

The Miller Family moved to Fallbrook, California in 1976  where they opened up and ran a preschool named, 'A Creative Beginning' until 1984.  She had taught in the Fallbrook Elementary School District from 1984 until she retired in 2009.

She started out teaching at LaPaloma. She then moved to Potter Jr High in 1987, where she taught Life Decisions for many years. She was the perfect teacher for this class, as she had a way of making light of some really tough life topics. One of Kathy’s most notable accomplishments at Potter was her Drama program.  She showcased plays like Miracle on 34th Street, Annie and The Wizard of Oz. Kathy’s creative nature erected sets that were Broadway-like.  She enjoyed providing this program to all of her talented students. One particular talented student who was most dear to her heart, was her daughter Jennifer.  Her son Brandon and husband Wayne would help with the sets.  She dedicated many hours to Potter’s best Drama program that people still talk about today.

After retirement, Kathy really enjoyed working in her garden. She could spend hours planting, replanting and esthetically redesigning her yard. Her home exterior was always decorated with the most beautiful flowers. One of her favorite places in town to buy plants and yard decorations was Myrtle Creek.  Her creativity and artistic nature was evident in all her projects.  Kathy also enjoyed painting and intricately embellished diamond wall art for her loved ones.

Aside from her projects, Kathy was involved in various activities in her community. She graciously volunteered her time at the Angel Shop, she taught an English class to Marines at Camp Pendleton and volunteered some time with her Church.  For fun, she would meet with a group to play cards and games.

Another fact to note about Kathy’s life, is her love for dogs.  I don’t believe there has been a time, at least in her adult life, that she did not own a dog. From Earl, D-O-G (pronounced Dee-oh-Jhee with a French accent), Serena, Marilyn (as in Monroe), Phoebe, Lucy (I Love Lucy) and Benji.  She loved cuddling and going for walks or driving the golf cart with her dogs.

Kathy spent much of her time at the Fallbrook Skilled Nursing Facility to make sure her husband Wayne felt loved and was well cared for.  Her love and devotion to him was immense.  They were married for 52 years.  She visited the facility daily until Covid restrictions kept her from seeing him.  Wayne passed away in 2020 with his love Kathy, by his side.

Family was very important to Kathy.  She had a way of nurturing without being overbearing.  She had an infectious smile that could brighten even the darkest days.  She always knew what to say and when to crack the funniest jokes.  She encouraged cohesiveness and held everyone together.  She will be sorely missed. She is survived by her children Brandon (Anna) Miller of Fallbrook, CA, Jennifer (James) Moore of Chico, CA, Lisa (Steve) Gannon of Corona, CA, Katie (Bobby) Rivera of Orange, CA and Carrie (Denis) Seger of Lincoln City, OR.  She has 12 grandchildren Brittany (Brendan), Zach, Austin, Lennon, Remington, Courtney (Craig), Jack (Amanda), Grant (Rondee), Evan, Emily (Dutch), Drew (Liz) and Erin.  She has 6 great grandchildren London, Amora, Maverick, John, Ace and Max. Four sisters Gretchen, Brenda (Harlan), Patricia, Susan and many nieces and nephews.  She will be ‘Forever Missed.’

Hawaii Trip 2021

Mom always enjoyed our Family Trips and encouraged us to continue these trips in order to make long lasting memories.  Last year's trip brought us to the Big Island, Hawaii.  Mom and her sister Pat were invited to vacation with our family.  She was 'all smiles' on this trip and was grateful for the opportunity to come along with us.  We treated her and Pat like Queens and gave them a vacation they deserved.  We will miss taking you on these vacations with us.  We will continue to travel the world and take you with us, in our hearts.  You will be forever missed. xox
