Her Life

Kay Waldron (Gran)

July 14, 2016

On Sunday, July 10, 2016, Kay Waldron (Gran) lost her battle with cancer. Kay was born September 12, 1933, in Dover, Delaware. She came to Houston, Texas, in 1962 with her now deceased husband, Gene Waldron, who was employed by NASA and worked for the Space Program.

Kay taught at St. Barnabas Episcopal School and Carden Jackson School in Pearland, Texas, for 29 years. She truly loved teaching and kept in touch with many of her students through Facebook and enjoyed seeing pictures of them and their families.

Gran loved nature; plants and animals. She had pet chickens, ducks, birds and squirrels at various times in her gorgeous backyard. But most of all, Gran loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She could be found in attendance at every play, choir and dance performance, and sporting event – baseball, football and basketball, regardless of weather or distance. She will be missed by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and their friends who grew to know her through her presence at these events.

Kay is survived by her children: son Gary Jackson and his wife Decca of Spring, Texas, son Brian Waldron of Wimberley, Texas, daughter Leslie Estes and her husband, Joe of Arlington, Texas, and step-daughter Linda Stiles and her husband Phil of Boca Raton, Florida. Gran is also survived by her grandchildren: Gary Jackson, Jr, wife Regan and Danny Jackson of Dallas, Texas, Kayla Estes and John Estes of Arlington, Texas. Gran has 2 great-grandchildren, Saylor and Tripp Jackson of Dallas, Texas.

Kay is also survived by her partner of 18 years, Granvel Smith, her brother, Jack Greenly of Frederica, Delaware, sister, Doris Stevenson of St. Georges, Delaware, and half-brothers and sister as follows: Bob Greenly and Janice Halden of Cambridge, Maryland, Craig, Dale and David Greenly of Frederica, Delaware.

Kay had a poster with this message in her home:

One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like. But the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 15, 2016, at Woods Chapel Baptist Church at 11 AM.
