Flower & Ash Ceremony
Underwater Park
Edmonds, WA

On a day of sunshine and ocean breezes, Kelley's mothers and sisters sprinkled her ashes into the waters of Puget Sound, along with flower stems from bouquets of roses, hydrangeas, dahlias, and daisies gathered from Gary's garden (Gary Gibbons, Kelley's stepdad).

Her mom, Lisa Clare, read these words:

"Birth and death are only doors through which we pass, sacred thresholds on our journey. Laugh with me, hold my hand, let us say good-bye ... say good-bye to meet again. May the Lord of Compassion embrace us all."
     ~ Author Unknown

"What we have once enjoyed we can never lose.
All that we love deeply becomes a part of us."
     ~ Helen Keller

Selected Verses from the "Flower & Ash Ceremony" Announcement:

"A butterfly lights beside us like a sunbeam
and for a brief moment its glory
and beauty belong to our world--
but then it flies again
and although we wish it could have stayed...
we feel lucky and blessed to have seen it.
     ~ Author Unknown

When you are sorrowful,
look into your heart
and you shall see that
you are weeping
for that which has been
your delight.
     ~ Kahlil Gibran

What the caterpillar perceives as the end,
to the butterfly is just the beginning...
     ~ Author Unknown

The caterpillar does all the work,
but the butterfly gets all the publicity.
     ~ George Carlin

The tide recedes but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
on in sweet refrains...
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.

Kelley Marie Smith, 31, of Seattle, Washington passed away unexpectedly on a Saturday night, 30 July 2011.

Kelley was born on Saturday afternoon, 5 July 1980, in San Diego, California. She is survived by her mother Lisa Clare MacQueen (formerly Smith, with maiden name of Sheppard) and her stepfather Gary Gibbons, both of Marysville, Washington; her father James R. Smith and her second mom DeeAnn K. Davis, both of Fruitland, Idaho; and her sisters Anna J. Smith of Seattle, Washington and Danielle M. Smith of Fruitland, Idaho.

Kelley attended elementary school in San Diego, California and Okinawa, Japan; and middle school and high school in Fruitland, Idaho.  She finished her senior year at Ballard High School in Seattle, Washington.

Kelley was an accomplished artist and many family members cherish her amazing artwork.  She will be best remembered for her love of practical jokes, her laughter and quick wit, and her kind, loving heart. She touched so many peoples’ lives and had many "crazy" adventures with her "bosom friend" Jaci Cox (Jangula).

Kelley loved the times she spent walking dogs in Seattle (including her beloved Roxie), reading, visiting the beach, and drinking Seattle coffee and tea with her mother Lisa Clare.

Kelley's life also deeply touched the lives of her many extended family members, including her biological grandmother Anna Smith (of New York); her second grandma, June (Williams) McClure (Kelley loved baking with Grandma June in Idaho); Scott and Bonnie Williams; Brad Williams and Jodee Pamperien; her Aunt Diana Gillum (of Fruitland, Idaho); and all the family in New York and Florida.

We will always love and miss you, Kelley!
